Yu Suzuki, the games development luminary who helped shape Sega's first-party output for more than two decades, is creating an arcade style shooter game for iOS, according to early reports.

A world exclusive preview of the iPhone and Android game, published in Famitsu, has named Suzuki's new project as Gan! Gan Kaizokudan (Gan! Gan! Pirates).
It will reportedly feature social elements and co-op play, while the first image of the game (coupled with the title) suggests Suzuki has themed the game on pirates.

Suzuki's has achieved a garlanded career in games development having spearheaded pioneering games such as Space Harrier, Out Run, After Burner, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop and Shenmue.

The free-to-play Gan! Gan! Pirates will launch on Android and iOS in September, Famitsu said. It is unclear if the game will be localised for the west.
