From what i've seen so far, they've served up a controller that would shame Blaze's R+D dept

Too funny! And I thought the sixAxis controller was bad!

Which community exactly have they listen too?

Evidently not the PS3 community because it seems Sony are once again to release a console that's hamstrung relative to the competition by it not having as much RAM.

but the pad? never again should people mock the Jaguar pad for having too much cramned onto it after this abortion.

Ah, but it's 'trendy' to trash talk Atari on teh internets so that won't ever stop.

The DRM stuff, at risk of repeating myself, so far ONLY Sony Japan in favour of such moves, Sony USA very much again'st.

Memories of Sega there with the Japan HQ being at odds with the North American HQ. We all know how well that turned out.

There's more chance of me buying a Casio Loopy than a PS4 the way Sony has shafted it's customers this generation!  >:(

Hear, hear. The way Sony abused the American courts system to stymie the YLoD issue being properly dealt with and other associated factors has guaranteed me not buying their next home console. Once bitten twice shy.

PlayStation 4 to cost £300 in UK, says report

The PlayStation 4 will retail at £300 in the UK, according to the latest reports.

Industry sources and leaked documents obtained by The Times suggest that the console will launch at around the same price as a Premium Wii U, and more than £100 cheaper than the PS3.

Previous reports have suggested that the console will retail at 40,000 Yen when it launches in Japan, which is roughly $428 in North America and approximately £270 in the UK (based on current exchange rates).

However, prices often vary between regions, with European customers typically expected to pay more.

Sony is widely expected to unveil the PlayStation 4 at its February 20 press conference, with images of what is believed to be prototype controllers for the console recently leaking online.

The peripherals appear similar in design to the standard PS3 controller, except with a touchpad at the centre and a light at the top that is expected to function in the same way as the orb at the end of the Move controller.

Rather than fill me with confidence, i'm just left wondering wher Sony plans to make the profit from, IF hardware is sold at a loss.PS2 had the memory cards, as does Vita price issue, so they are bound to have some Sony specific format gubbins somewhere.

1 thing they got SO right with PS3 was you could use any suitable PC HDD as opposed to MS closed approach with 360, would be typical of Sony to rob Peter to Pay Paul somewhere with PS4.

PlayStation 4 to introduce cross-platform play?

The PlayStation 4 will feature cross-platform gaming support, a new report has suggested.

Sony's as-yet unannounced console will allow users to compete against each other using different hardware, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Cross-platform hardware includes "smartphones and other portable devices", the latter of which likely refers to the PlayStation Vita.

Backing up earlier claims that the PS4 will focus on social gaming, the device will also be linked to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, enabling users to share achievements and videos on social media.

The report also suggests that PlayStation 3 titles will be playable using Gaikai cloud technology, and that the same tech will enable other Sony devices to run games beyond their current hardware capabilities.

Well, there we go.I've seen the video's, read up on the Specs (Sony do seem to have learnt a lesson here, make the hardware powerful, but easy to use and give it plenty of Ram) and it's honestly as i expected in most areas, worse in others.

We all pretty much knew the hardware specs weeks ago, leaks galore, so no real surprise there, plus as Jez San said around the PS2 era:From the Dreamcast onwards, ALL consoles have been able to render more than enough polygons, it's now a case of what you do with them.a £300 console is never going to out spec a gaming PC, so pointless comparing them there.

When all the next-gen game engines were show cased, next gen seemed to be all about the advanced lighting and particle effects, Unreal 4, Cry 3 etc, now Capcoms new engine doing similar, but in their case, i'd say Demon's Souls on PS3 had far greater an impact than what was shown here, plus i've never looked at my PS3 or 360 and sighed and said...if only you could render better lighting and particle effects.

Knack was said to be running on Unreal 4 engine and from the creator of Marble Madness, but man, it looked like the generic fodder we've been served since the PS2 era and almost like the PS4's take on 360 Kameco. Not impressed from technical or creative level so far.

New Killzone? well, developer adressed critiscm of previous games (which i loved on PS3+PSP, not so keen on PS2 orig) and it's much more colourful, looks fantastic, but again, so far? ohh so generic.

It won't block used games, as we saner folk knew from day 1, media just dragging out same scare stories they had for pre-PS3 reveal.

I'm hating the focus on the 'sharing experience' a whole chipset dedicated to this crap, something aimed very much at the twitter/facebook generation, who cannot even pass wind without wanting to jump online and share it with others.

Diablo 3 on PS3? no surprise, been rumoured for months.

Sony fanboys moaning that likes of:The Last Of Us+Beyond NOT annouced for PS4 yet, ohh yeah, that'd do the games wonders, steal resources for a:same game but look at those grafix! version, how about you let the teams finish the PS3 version before considering a PS4 version?.

Still nothing on The Last Guardian? not a good sign.

The PS expeiernce anywhere crap? yeah, tick box hit there.

So basically, it's an as i expected reveal (as MS's will be), i've bugger all interest in the socal side, Eye Toy 3, touch screen etc etc. It's offering nothing to really say only on PS4, i do like the idea of you not having to wait for a game to finish downloading to start playing.

As for the streaming games aspect? bloody hell, iF they had that much trouble streaming 480P footage of the event, what chance is there for games?.

Only game so far i'm keen on is new Infamous, loved 3 previous games, keen to see what Sucker Punch do with the hardware and i loved the whole Xmen-esq crack down on mutants vibe.

As a Sony fan I didn't need much convincing but I can safely say I will be buying one at launch. The whole Gaikai streaming aspect seems really cool and the ability to play PS4 games on my Vita will be awesome. Don't really care about the social aspect all that much but I can just ignore that stuff and yes it was obvious that they were not going to block used games. Guess all the Xbox fans can start worrying now that it's Microsoft that's going to try that stunt with their next console  :P

I watched the PS4 announcement last night and was happy to see them showing more original IPs than sequels. The Witness, Driveclub, Deep Down, Knack, 'Creative Console', Destiny, etc. were more interesting to me than showing another Killzone, and another inFamous.

Does Driveclub mean the Gran Turismo series will finally be retired?

Surprising that they didn't at least show a mock-up of the console or any live demos during the presentation. Probably didn't want to reveal that everything they showed was running on a PC. :D

Thing is though, Destiny is much like Diablo 3, there's also a (enhanced) version of it coming out for PS4, it's not original I.P designed for PS4 or Xbox Next in mind.I personally had hoped a new generation would have a far higher ratio in favour of new I.P's to existing ones.

Deep Down (working title) just looked influenced by likes of Dragon's Dogma, Monster Hunter, Demon's+Dark Souls etc.Indeed many see it as Dragon's Dogma 2 in all but name.

I'd clap my hands with joy if Gran Turismo is finally put out to pasture, for too long it's held the myth of 'The real driving sim' when in fact it's nothing such.Forza over took it years ago, it's no longer the Playstation showcase, visually and it's A.I routines have barely changed since the PS1 games.

Sony said the PS4 event was more about the system functions (games, services etc) rather than the hardware, so did'nt want to show a fugly looking console, which would have drawn attention away from what they did want to show.

Made sense to me, PS2+PS3 not exactly lookers in any form, but they just sit under TV, so i don't see it as a thing to worry about. As long as the PS4 build quality is high, it's optical drive does'nt burn out and it's a decent cooling system, it's done it's job.

Current gen PSN titles (and save data) won't be able to be transfered to PS4 Sony has said.

Sooo, i'm wondering just how long they'll remain on PSN once PS4 has gotten into full swing.

Raises a few questions of what happens to games you've bought if your HDD fails (i've had 3 die on me in past 3 years due to bad sectors etc).

Be interesting to see how public responds to the news.

I was really impressed, the controller looks nice and rugged. Maybe slightly chunkier than the DS3, which I personally like. The social side has some great ideas. Some I will use I am sure the YouTube option will be very popular. A def purchase for me.

Defo under impressed with the whole reveal, as said above we had already seen near specs, controller and few of the games, graphics shout PS3.5 rather than PS4 and the whole streaming is nothing new, I've been streaming high end PC games on my Xperia Play for a year and a half.
Loyal fans will be pissed at no backwards compatibility on physical games only streamed old games that you will have to buy again, and it's not confirmed regarding the used games about repurchasing licenses, so not all used games will work tbc.
Also not confirmed installing games which is one thing Sony lost respect for, dl of demos to play while still dl'ing hints we might not have to install, but it's not confirmed and is abig issue for me it's a games console ffs!
Controller looks better with xbox360 pad curves and better triggers that your fingers shouldn't slip off like on PS3.
And no pictures of the console!? What kind of reveal is that when you don't even get to see the main product!
Finally BIG fuck up from Sony who couldn't even maintain servers to stream a video feed! Like mentioned above, imagine the strain on their servers when people are streaming games around the world 24 hours a day!?

Not getting the media hate about OMG we did'nt see what the console looks like!.

Concerned why? I don't intend to anything other than plug the damn thing in and stare at the TV screen, not the box.

The N64, looked like a kids toy, yet gave me Goldeneye, Lylat Wars, Doom 64, Perfect Dark etc.

Xbox was a monster, but OTOGI, Ninja Gaiden, Halo etc.

PS2, looked like a fan heater, GTA3, VC, SH2 etc.

Dreamcast:A pie maker, yet delivered Soul Caliber, Powerstone, Starlancer etc.

PS3:Looks like a low fat grill, 360 a black slab of a console.

Only machines i've ever been thinking that looks bloody smart have been

Sega's combined MCD+MD unit, the planned Jaguar/Jag CD Duo and the Konix multi-system.
