The Amstrad CPC has received a new racing project with OutRun 2026, a conversion of the Master System version of Sega’s arcade classic for CPC 6128 machines.
The project targets 128K hardware and brings all 15 stages and their branching routes across to the Amstrad. The conversion also includes the three main pieces of music associated with the game: Magical Sound Shower, Passing Breeze and Splash Wave.
It is another example of the CPC scene taking an established 8-bit version and adapting it for different hardware rather than attempting a completely new interpretation of the arcade original.
The project was created using modern AI-assisted development tools, making it an interesting technical experiment as well as a new piece of software for CPC owners.
RVG take: The CPC continues to receive an impressive stream of new conversions, and OutRun is a particularly recognisable addition to the machine’s growing modern library.
