Wow, that's a lot of versions!  The ST is a very good adaptation but some of these are arcade perfect.  Too bad the that Lynx version was a prototype.  Looks like the game could have been adapted well for the system (even if the main character is rather large on what is shown).

An all time fav.of mine, 1st encountered in a very scummy arcade in my town, had myself and then best mate hooked.

Since then, owned it on C64 (Looks quite washed out when viewed now), GBA (still have), Speccy (via emulation) and Playstation (why i sold it, i'll never know).

I still say it's a far better game than Rainbow Islands.

Very interesting to view ALL those versions, main Lynx sprite  far too large though, take it that unlike the GBA ver.they were trying to fit entire level screen into view, rather than scrolling up, but with a towering main sprite, the rest of the level design (such as it is) looks completly wrong size.

Looks like Land Of The Giants version.

I had never seen that Lynx demo before I saw this video  ???

I am assuming it was just somebody playing around with code.

Many of the later versions of this game are actually based off the brilliant Atari ST version as apparently Taito had lost the original source code!

I do have a fondness for the Spectrum version.  An old schoolfriend of mine used to own it.  The hours we played on that.

'Bubble Bobble' probably has the slight edge of 'Rainbow Islands' because of the co-operative play setup.

Well, okay, but as you said most versions are ported from the ST; I'm pretty damn sure this is not a straight port but features enhanced visuals. I saw it live, definitely didn't look like 16 colors. :)

Yeah but there is a big difference between porting a game to another system using the ST source code as a base and actually using the exact same code but running on a Jag and then tarting the graphics up a little. I also doubt that it will ever see an official release given how protective Taito are of their copyrights.

I love Bubble Bobble it is one of my favourite games ever, and that is coming from a guy who hates platformers, but I would rather see some more original games on the Jaguar or nice upgrades of old games. I can play Bubble Bobble on a trillion other systems (as this video shows) so to me a Jag version is ultimately pointless.

I remeber spending my pay in the coin up when I was a kid. A true classic!

IMO it's nice to have it ported on the Jaguar, there aren't any games of this genre on the catalog and it definitely is a good game. :)

Don't be surprised, my broken English is legendary!
