French emulation specialist DotEmu has finally brought Seibu Kaihatsu's excellent Raiden franchise to the App Store in the form of Raiden Legacy - a compilation that features four games.

All four games in this compilation - Raiden, Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2, Raiden Jet - have been recreated and enhanced with several new features for Apple's iPhone and iPad.
Each title, for example, boasts three game modes: Arcade, which offers an authentic old skool experience; Mission, which allows you to replay any unlocked missions; and Training, which is pretty self explanatory.

Additionally, you can choose to play with each game's original controls or a newer and faster control system that's been designed for touch-enabled devices.
You can also connect your iPhone or iPad to one of Ion Audio's iCade peripherals and use a physical stick and buttons. If you're into that sort of thing.
Raiden Legacy has just shot onto the New Zealand App Store, so you'll be able to grab it in the UK and US from around midnight this evening. It'll set you back £2.99 / $4.99.
It'll be available to download for Android devices later this year[/align:13hdtwar].

my bad i copied this from another site.
awesome 🙂
Awesome!!!!
I love the Raiden games
I've got this. It's hard, but fun. The controls feel a bit sluggish compared to R-Type and Espgaluda 2/Dodonpachi Resurrection - they're 1:1 and there's no sensitivity to the speed you're moving your finger at, which is a shame. That works really well with R-Type and gives you some compensation for the fact that touch controls aren't ideal.
Hope it's compatible with the Archos Gamepad when I get hold of it - I have a funny feeling that the fact that the game is vertically orientated might put the kibosh on it.
I think this is great, it is pretty hard but the Raiden games always were. Great value for the price and i think the controls work fine
The controls are okay, as they go, but they're inferior to the controls in the two Cave games as far as I'm concerned, and it's pretty much a no-brainer that physical controls will improve things. Whether or not the Archos Gamepad will be the solution or not, I don't know. Here's hoping.
Well, I got my wish! Today's update to Raiden Legacy has brought much-needed higher ratio controls to the game. There's now fast touch 120, 150 and 200 options. 150 didn't seem to work, but 200 moves your ship in a 2:1 ratio, and on a tablet in particular that is highly useful.
