yes..this is very nice for what it will we do, but my response to Havantgottaclue in my Archos Gamepad review, why paid over the odds for something you can do for half the price in the first place?, this is simply an Ouya / Wikipad cash in Nvidia are pulling, simply because , there saying..well we are making Tegra 3 and Tegra 4 Chip-set for the next gen phones etc.., why not go over there heads and make our own..maximizing profits and hold the rest of them to ransom with Tegra 4 GPU to be on our devices first, yes, it's all the norm now, for these things to appear when someone else is trying to survive or bring a new product idea to the public, still this will be ace etc The PC transfer is a good one, again nothing special, as I reckon Ouya was gonna be doing this anyways, sorta like an Android version of the Ps3 to Vita Idea, and look how that turned out....rubbish :), this joypad come PS1 LCD screen addon is for rich kids and morons with more money then sense buying into a name and nothing really more when looked at closely

A little harsh there Greyfox! Just because your in the Archos camp now, competition is good for all!
I think all the tech you mentioned is actually for different people..

Ouya- budget gaming on TV with controllers.
Wikipad - deluxe pc style gaming on a tablet, double use as a tablet.
Archos Gamepad - budget gaming on a tablet, double use as a tablet.
Nvidia Shield - deluxe gaming on controller with built in screen.

Really different markets for each of those, heck as I've said, I've pre ordered a Ouya and now want a Shield to replace my Xperia Play.

And hardly can blame Nvidia for using their own tech first, though by the time Q2 arrives I'm sure tablets will be out with Tegra 4 chips in anyway...

I don't think buying into a name comes into the equation, this fits the bill of what I want, analogue control in the Xperia Pay is naff, screen could be a little bigger, more memory and faster cpu..guess what Nvidia have come to my needs...

thanks for views Jay, harsh has nothing to do with what I was saying , I'm sure Nvidia will cater for those wanting a device of this nature, with a high price tag, nothing Nvidia ever created and distributed themselves was ever cheap or competitively priced , this won't be either, I have myself allot of nividia hardware here, with all the graphic design work I use and only use Nvidia chip sets on both my PC Workstations, I just feel that all of sudden this appears out of nowhere, what else do you expect people to think? and owning a Archos Gamepad has nothing at all do with it lol, I liked that comment, if I owned one or not, I`d still would of commented the same, don't get me wrong, I'm sure this is gonna be good, I just know how Nvidia operate from past dealings, this will no different..and hope you'll do a full review and put me my place.  8)

"Spec analysis: Nvidia Project Shield
Digital Foundry's take on the GPU maker's surprise handheld announcement"

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-ha ... c-analysis

Definitely in is the ability to play back 4K video via HDMI, and you should expect to hear a lot more about this extreme 3840x2160 resolution specification from CES this week. There have already been rumours that Sony's next-gen console may support it, and 4K gaming is something we'll be looking into in due course.

Bang goes another potential Sony-exclusive then!

PS4 at best was only ever going to 'do' 4K playback on movies, as for gaming in 4K, pffff, IF PS4/Xbox Next both manage 3D gaming in 1080P at 60 FPS i'll be amazed and we all know how big a 4K screen needs to be to for the human eye to really notice the extra detail, right????

Indeed. I posted as such too as soon as said Sony BS hit teh internets.

... and we all know how big a 4K screen needs to be to for the human eye to really notice the extra detail, right????

I recently purchased Lawrence of Arabia 50th anniversary edition on Blu-ray Disc after reading rave write-ups of its A/V quality on reputable Blu-ray Disc movie critic sites. It's a 4K transfer and looks jaw droppingly great on my 40" 1080p TV screen.

Whether a 'normal' non-4K transfer release on BRD would have looked just as good or not on my TV I have no idea. I didn't buy it because of any 4K marketing spin anyway, I bought it because of the great write-ups.

One respected site even commented that said release is now the new benchmark for the BRD format itself. I don't know about that but it does look bloody impressive to me!

I really hope they price it fairly, but judging from the video below, it's gonna be expensive ..

I'm also guessing that it will be expensive.  It'll be quite interesting to see how this develops.

Ditto!

However, Nvidia have already confirmed they plan on releasing an updated version of the device each year. In common with Apple's new products there might be a few issues with the first version which should be remedied with the subsequently released revision so if I do decide on getting one then I may wait for that first revision. Especially so as I'm guessing these things aren't going to be cheap.

I wasn't really interested in this until I read Greyfox's analysis

this joypad come PS1 LCD screen addon is for rich kids and morons with more money then sense buying into a name and nothing really more when looked at closely

For morons you say?
Where do I pre-order?
Great description though Greyfox "Joypad come PS1 LCD Screen add on" I think you should copyright it before Nvidia steal it.

The Shield does look good specwise, but as has been said it will probably be pricey and thus not for me anyway.
