From what little i know of the Wii U hardware, to get the best from it, you had to download a firmware update as soon as you switched it on, in Europe at least, said patch took ages and regularly disconnected, now there's another 2 incoming to bring hardware performance up to where it should have been from day 1 and by the sounds of it, Nintendo knew it'd need said firmware updates hence reserving the space.
This is'nt a bash the Wii Post, i'm just struggling to get my head around how a console could be released in this day and age needing this.Know Sony capped the PSP CPU in pre-god of war days, claiming battery issues or something, then unlocked it and Ms freed up more disc space in 360's later years, but for a 2012 piece of hardware, i just dunno what to say.
As for the game size of Nintendo Land, was thinking same thing, we are not talking say a big PS3 game which has space taken by numerous audio codecs, 15 mins of cinematics and 3D on it.
I'm used to games requiring you upgrade your memory from the 8 Bit days (A8, ZX81 etc) and the ST/Amiga days (games on ST starting to require double sided drive etc), but in this digital age, to sell the consumer a machine which cannot even cope with a small sized game as it has'nt the usable storage, crazy.
It's not like Wii U was rushed out to even get a head start over a similarly spec. console, ie between 360+PS3.
I've said it before, but as far as the industry goes, i'm honestly sometimes amazed companies don't learn from mistakes overs have over the years.
I honestly think only gaming can get away with this, you would'nt expect Hotpoint say to sell you a washing machine, and them say, take it home, connect it to the internet, download this firmware, then you'll be able to use rinse only, rinse and spin etc ohh and you'll only be able to fill it 3/4 full of items we've reserved the other 1/4.
Mind you my exp.with Sony was just as bad, everything bar PS3 connects to BT Homehub seamlessly (iPad, PSP's+360), yet Sony want me to reprograme the router to open ports for their dated wi-fi tech. Not going to happen.
As a consumer, espically a console gamer, i want ease of use, if i wanted to be messing around with updates etc, i'd go back to PC gaming and be into downloading new drivers and worrying about graphics cards settings and my anti-virus hogging resources etc.
Lol we can pick the sony thing up in the other thread but sounds right!
Regarding dead space 3, wow, are they charging full price for the game too? Mind you, you say microtransactions but really any dlc where you buy a gun or armor etc is a form of micro transaction so its not that shocking, just a sign of the times, not that its a good thing lol
Hearing that as well as the in-game purchases, there's 11 bits of DLC being launched for the game on day of release, in order to beef up your suit, your guns etc.
1 is an on-line pass a few others give you the stuff in various S.E versions of the game, but even so, that's crazy.
yeah.... I really don't like where all this crap is going I think its a bad sign. the quality of the main game takes a dip and then your charged extra for crap that should've been in the game from the get go... its pretty dark

Games like Dead Space 3 seem to much more a test of just how willing you are to 'buy yourself better' rather than test your gaming skills.
After achivements/trophies, got your credit card ready? here, buy this that and other and we'll give you:The best weapons, the best armour, the best bots, why bother exploring, let the bots find everything and craft the stuff for you, why experiment with weapon designs when you can just buy buy buy!.
Indeed E.A, after Dead Space 2, i said Bye-Bye to the series as it was clear you were rapidly moving away from what made 1st game great.
yeah thats another way of looking at it, they are encouraging the sort of play that means you basically don't have to try if you have enough money, that's definitely bad for video games in general

When i think the protype of Dead Space was running on the MK 1 Xbox back in 2006, it pains me to see how series has degenerated over time.
Yeah I liked the first Dead Space but never bothered getting the second one and definitely wont be getting the third one. Looks like EA is trying to bring mobile game pricing schemes to consoles now, terrible!
I think this is why I stopped playing on the Xbox360. I had played Forza Motorsport since Forza 2, but with each new game there seemed to be more and more DLC to buy. When you get to Forza Horizons and there are different downloads depending on the store you get it from, then you can't see some cars on the day you got the game unless you pay for some more downloads it's just made me feel like a cash cow being milked for all I would give.
For the record I suck at shooters on consoles so they never even got a look in on the 360 anyway.
And just as bad was Ninty with the Wii version of Just Dance my daughter wanted and got for xmas. She wanted to dance to Gangnam Style (she is only 9 and doesn't know any better) but when we loaded the game and went to put the song on, it took us to a screen telling us how to set up an account to buy the downloadable content. Sorry little one but Nintendo just screwed us all. She already dislikes Ninty for not releasing all the new games for her DS she got last year as they all seem to be released for the 3DSÂ >:(
As for next gen consoles, I don't think I'll be buying them for a while after they launch if at all.

To be fair, it's Ubisoft you should be blaming there as they're the game's publisher.
P.S. Gangnam Style is fab!
