I don't remember it being that bad 
The PC Engine version is my personal favourite but the Spectrum version is amazingly impressive
It just seemed really slow for a 16-bit game.
Speccy version was bloody amazing, yet another conversion that turned out far better than i'd ever of thought possible on the hardware.
C64 version was dissapointing, but understandable given the 6-7 week period it was written in.
No mention of the Master System version?.
