This was one of my favourite shoot-em-ups, from the twilight years of the Amiga’s heyday. By 1993 we had the AGA system and millions of colours; level mapping, programming and sound design were ever increasing and all the games were looking slicker then ever, and Disposable Hero (or D-Hero) was no exception.

Jaguar XJ220 was one of those games that as soon as I had played the demo, I knew I had to have. However I recall at the time the music and graphics on the demo version being slightly superior to the final game, which caused minor uproar at the time.

Turrican 3, like many of today’s franchises, felt a little like things were being stretched with the release of a third Turrican game. Turrican himself had undergone a makeover; abandoning his surround laser in place of a fiddly grapple-gun being the most significant change.

Ah, Chaos Engine is another of my all-time favourite Amiga games. This would be top 3 for me, for sure. I have many happy memories of being blown away by the demo version and eventually bought the more colourful AGA version of the game, which I’d play at any opportunity.

Back in the day, I loved Midnight Resistance.. A well-made, explosive action platform adventure that was also great in two-player mode. I remember playing it so much, I could complete it without resorting to cheat mode – and it’s a pretty tough game.
