Here's a cool read from Retro Gamin Magazine's web page:  THE FIFTEEN MOST DIFFICULT NES GAMES (THAT ARE NOT BATTLETOADS).  Has anyone tried any of these games on the NES?

I've played a few of those, but never made it very far!

TrekMD

So, looks like their inclusion on this list is appropriate.  :)

Out of the ones I played:

Ghosts 'N Goblins
The Adventures of Bayou Billy
Shadowgate
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom

Shadowgate was probably the most fun with the most replay value. I had written down the most efficient path and items for it and could make it to the Behemoth final boss in no time when I'd finished going through it so much. Never found the guide for it (or the one I'd made for Section Z) but would be a nice relic to have posted :13:

Awesome link 8)

Double Dragon III is the only one I have played on the list.  I agree. After playing Double Dragon II, I had such high hopes for number III. It was a letdown.

Here is a new video from Metal Jesus listing some hidden gems for the NES!

I grew up with the NES: and sure I can say ( Contra, SMB 3, Zelda etc) are my fav's.  But I really enjoyed a rare shmup call Gun Nac.  Maybe I'm a little late to this thread, but hey it was a fun game.

Shadowrunner

If you like Gun Nac you should take a look here :)

Very Nice - This game also had a lot of Blazing Lazers elements to it

Exceptional info there. Had no idea of any of that.

I love the NES. My first title for it was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! Below are my favorite games:

1. Final Fantasy
2. Zelda 1 & 2
3. Battle Of Olympus (A very underrated title imo.)
4. Super Mario 2 & 3
5. Faxanadu
6. Gun.Smoke
7. Dragon Warrior 2 & 3
8. River City Ransom

TrekMD

I'm not familiar with Battle of Olympus.  What type of game is it?

One of the guys from Game Sack has a look at the NES.  Here's his video review of the system and several of its games...
