You know, one of the amazing things about these commercials is the creativity behind them. You don't see anything like that for video games in this day and age!

Those were some excellent prizes McDonald's was giving away in the scratch off game. Wish they still did that same thing instead of the Monopoly crap.
Dude's hair was awesome in the one where he said, "Having an Atari system without those games is like having a stereo with no hit records." Hit records? LOL
I
wish
they still put out vinyl
Dang, Ozzie Smith looked like a kid @ 4:34. I wonder if he remembers (regrets) making that commercial?
Wish I had one of those 'special offer' Pacman shirts from JCPenney. Would probably be worth a small fortune today.
Guy in the Star Master ad looked like he was baked when the tv tried to pull him in. I'm guessing whoever thought these up was pretty baked.
Great stuff.
I've noticed all the commercials make/made the games look like a lot more fun than they actually were. Like the Reactor commercial. Dude sliding around
in the game
on that board or whatever it was and the two in the Defender ad going ballistic. I don't remember being that overly jumpy when it came to the games. Some of them had my interest through the roof but I wasn't fidgeting or bouncing around in my chair like a knucklehead lol. Must have been engineered to make those watching believe they weren't getting the most or enough out of the exciting games they bought.

Yes, I heard that one about the records and smiled. There are people now who have no clue what those are! As for vinyl, there are some scores and soundtracks being released this way today but I think they are more collector pieces than anything else.
As for the Pac-Man t-shirt, you and me both! I don't recall ever seeing that offer in Puerto Rico, though.
And yes, the commercials do make the games to be more than they are but, given that so much had to be left to the imagination back then, I'm not surprised.

Well, I don't recall the shirt offer at all. May have seen it at the time but it's long gone from memory.
About the vinyl, i remember back in 88, I could go to the local music place and order anything on record. They also had to unlock some medieval case to look at the back of cassettes or get one for purchase. Had a ton of stuff on records.
Those are some great ads in the video. The opening one with the general was pretty cool. Especially when he told them at the end to get their own game lol.
