it's crazy that they all used TV screen grabs to get screen shots, yet there was digitizers out there that could of give them superior grabs, even back then..plus wasn't all this software created on a computer at one stage?..what was stopping them using the computer images of the graphics when they where created...one to think about

My first computer!
I luckily had the colour monitor version, and a tonne of games although some were way beyond my years e.g. I was 5/6 when I had it and Dun Darach was utterly beyond my comprehension!
From a collection of old ads at a favourite site of mine (old computers)

I'll include caption for it:
"This guy has so much power in his hands that he has attracted two girls (so far) in his swimming-pool !
Notice the classical symbol of the 80s adverts : the glass of orange juice with a straw..."
Classy!Â
That is a great advertÂ

I have seen those things at shows, the screen is so small it's pretty much unusable!

Anyone else want to go to Toys "R" Us or is this ad over? I do not see an expiration date. They will probably tell me they are out of stock! :113:
Can you imagine walking into the store with that ad and asking for one of those systems!? LOL It's be hysterical to see the face of a young employee who is unfamiliar with these systems!
That would be funny!

Cool Atarisoft ad! If you can't beat them, join themÂ
There's just something about all these classic adverts, and on looking back that they seem to lock into the era when they were made like no other, the art work is second to none 95% of the time and has had a huge influence on my style of graphic design allot of the time, they just seem to hold their romance like no other and throws you back to being 10 years old again.
Is this what middle aged men (us) now have to look forward too? Lol
Great stuff .
This isn't an advert, but wasn't quite sure where else to put it. I found this quotation for an Amstrad 6128 and Tatung Einstein my dad apparently got sometime in 1985. He didn't buy either though.

Not only that. They actually did a better job with some of the games on other systems.

[align=center:28li6m6a]Joust - Atari Video Game Commercial - Atari 2600 & 5200 - MTV Commercial (//http)[/align:28li6m6a]
Great Commercial. I enjoyed the all the home versions of Joust. When I started collecting for the NES it was at the top of my list after Popeye and Donkey Kong.
I wonder how much money that commercial cost them! A 2-minute commercial was not cheap and the TV spot on MTV was not either, I'm sure.
The commercial probably cost more to make then the game. Some talented people with some good use of puppetry.

if interest, if you guys want?, pick you best of the best advertisement and I'll see about making it a poster free to download and print yourselves ? what do you think?
the only rule is that the image be of decent resolution not sizes like 320x240 or 400x400 sizes, they have to be good clean scan for me to remaster and turn into a poster with.

Well, I guess the issue is finding a scan that is of the right resolution.
most magazine racks use semi-hi res- just not Google versions or fan site version as they never get it right, most of the time the are scanned at hires but with a low DPI for file sizes, I will clean and remaster these and export the DPI for higher interpolation on the resolution to address pixelation etc.
Sounds good!
In the unlikely event that anyone wants one of my scans I can always re-do them in better quality. I think my sister has a pretty good scanner.
Nice!
Quote from: "TrekMD"Sounds good!
here's what can be done with an advertisement, this original image was 100DPI low res, I think about 600k, I've enlarged it to a3 poster size 300 and is 13meg now, but this is for display purposes to show you all, so if interested, start putting together a collection

It's cool to see all the versions in the same ad also.Â
That's excellent. I'd only ever seen or played the 2600 version way back. And man, did I spend some hours on that one. One of the best-later games (iirc) for the system with better graphics and gameplay than I'd come to expect. My memory may not be spot on since that was so long ago but even if wrong, I like what I
think I remember.
Glad you posted that
The classic adverts can't be beaten, they have a special timeless place in time that can only be appreciated by those who remember that magazine era. I've remastered a great deal of some of the best one to me and must post up a few of them in the download section of the forum.
I recently remastered one from the Atari Age magazine where there is a montage of superb artwork from classic Atari VCS game boxart as an A3 poster, but have yet to get it printed, but I will be soon, this is what I had to work with

Oh, I'm sure it was the bomb back then! Just don't let it drive you over the edge!
Beauty and the Beast sure resembled Donkey Kong!
Yep, that's what everyone says. There are differences, of course, but you can't deny they had to be inspired by Kong when they made that game.Â

Those were some excellent prizes McDonald's was giving away in the scratch off game. Wish they still did that same thing instead of the Monopoly crap.
Dude's hair was awesome in the one where he said, "Having an Atari system without those games is like having a stereo with no hit records." Hit records? LOL
I wish they still put out vinyl 8)
Dang, Ozzie Smith looked like a kid @ 4:34. I wonder if he remembers (regrets) making that commercial?
Wish I had one of those 'special offer' Pacman shirts from JCPenney. Would probably be worth a small fortune today.
Guy in the Star Master ad looked like he was baked when the tv tried to pull him in. I'm guessing whoever thought these up was pretty baked.
Great stuff.
I've noticed all the commercials make/made the games look like a lot more fun than they actually were. Like the Reactor commercial. Dude sliding around in the game on that board or whatever it was and the two in the Defender ad going ballistic. I don't remember being that overly jumpy when it came to the games. Some of them had my interest through the roof but I wasn't fidgeting or bouncing around in my chair like a knucklehead lol. Must have been engineered to make those watching believe they weren't getting the most or enough out of the exciting games they bought.
Yes, I heard that one about the records and smiled. There are people now who have no clue what those are! As for vinyl, there are some scores and soundtracks being released this way today but I think they are more collector pieces than anything else.
As for the Pac-Man t-shirt, you and me both! I don't recall ever seeing that offer in Puerto Rico, though.
And yes, the commercials do make the games to be more than they are but, given that so much had to be left to the imagination back then, I'm not surprised. :)
Well, I don't recall the shirt offer at all. May have seen it at the time but it's long gone from memory.
About the vinyl, i remember back in 88, I could go to the local music place and order anything on record. They also had to unlock some medieval case to look at the back of cassettes or get one for purchase. Had a ton of stuff on records.
Those are some great ads in the video. The opening one with the general was pretty cool. Especially when he told them at the end to get their own game lol.

Love the Conker's Bad Fur Day ;D
Don't recall ever seeing that commercial. Might needed to have come with a PG rating!
Some more Atari commercials...
http://youtu.be/nIWvjcHJ-kc
More great ads. The Rent-A-Center one was awesome. Get an Atari 2600 free for as long as you rent a tv from them. That rocks, would be nice if they did that with PS4s :D
The Combat Control Pad for Star Trek is unique. I didn't have that game so didn't know it existed. Must be a high value collector's item nowadays.
Never heard of any of the stores listed at the end of that last commercial. Probably all defunct now. Man, how times change :-X
I thought the Star Trek ad was great with the kid dressed us as a Vulcan at the end! I have the game and it does include the controller overlay.
Awesome, yeah that kid was all decked out lol. He looked very familiar and although I couldn't place who he was or resembled, I can't help but think he went on to bigger and better things in TV or Hollywood. Wish there was an IMDB style site for advertisements. Would be much harder to look them up too.
This is going to bug me until I figure it out. Stupid OCD ::)
Here are a couple more...

Those are outstanding. Wish I had one of those watches today!
You have wonder how much they'd be worth today! LOL
No doubt, was wondering if someone still had a pallet or two of these that didn't sell back in the day. They'd be sitting on a gold mine!
Reminded me of all the copies of Aircars for the Jaguar that a guy at ICD told me were still in their old building in Downer's Grove Illinois back in 2003. I'd actually called the number on the site and spoke to the owner lol. Thought it was time to do a stealth raid on the location to recover as many as possible but learned later that the building had fallen to disrepair and loiterers who pretty much ransacked the place. Nothing left but broken glass and garbage. Too bad really. I woulda mounted the operation in a heartbeat 8)
But, back on topic, yeah these would be priceless whether they functioned or not imo. Just to have one under glass would make my year :)
These items can surprise us sometimes, in the value the get. I have a Mickey Mouse watch from when I was 5 years old. It's one of those that you wind up. It still works, even if it shows its age. It still has the original wristband which was made in leather. I'm sure it could be restored to look like new again.
Can't undertand any of it but it is a cool Vectrex commercial...
http://youtu.be/OuzZIRXfdkA
Very cool. I had no idea Bandai released the Vectrex in Japan.
Me neither but it was cool to see that commercial!
I don't think this one has been posted.

Awesome oldie but it looks like the housewife's decision to make Zayre her store went south in 1990 when the last of them closed lol.
And why was that employee carrying all those systems by hand? Dollies weren't invented yet? LOL
Love that commercial. Had to laugh the kid points at the print ad for Atari 2600 and beside it appears to be an Atari 400. Wait maybe it was some proto 2600 to compete with the Odyssey 2.
Great commercial, but yeah that's clearly a 400 and not a 2600 in the ad lol.
It's an unreleased prototype! The Atari 3000 (2600 + 400)! :) Can't say I had ever heard of Zayre. Those didn't make it to Puerto Rico. :)

Really love that one..brilliant, wtf don't they do them like this anymore? At least it would be more enticing to me., but I know the designers today are wet behind the ear college heads with no real heritage of our the true masters did it back then. I'm sorry, this is something I feel is very important in the history of advertisement promotion and design
You're right, they don't advertise like this anymore. It is unfortunate because I do have to agree that this type of ad does bring you in.
Just saw this ad from Kay-Bee Toys. Look at the adapter for the NES controller. I wonder how well those sold?
I've seen the ad before but I've never seen one of those adapters anywhere. Would be cool to try one.
I ran a search on Ebay to see if there were any. I did find several but they are all missing the joystick.

Cool! I don't think I've ever seen that one before.
