Kart Racers

I think this episode from Game Sack should be of interest and generate some discussion.  The genre was started by Nintendo and it caugh on, leading to many imitators.  From retro to modern let's check it out...

Shall we ignore the fact that 'kart racing' is just racing, but in karts, and is not a genre in its own (-;

I enjoyed the video but felt they should have expanded the concept a little to have included games like micro machines and mashed.

Good point and I see from the comments from others on Youtube that they missed a few titles. Dare I mention Atari Karts - not the best but not the worst of racers either

Yes they are racing games but I guess because they use carts that makes the games a bit different from other racing games.  In any case, I thought the video was good but I did also notice the missing Atari Karts.  It should have been included too.

Yes Atari Karts on Jaguar should have been included.

If you look up 'Kart racing' some of the early games mentioned dont really feature go karts as their vehicle, an earlier one I did find is Turbo Kart Racer on the Spectrum:

It actually came out only a year before Mario Kart which is pretty cool [emoji2]

It is! I thought the graphic detail was very impressive for a speccy game and it really is a kart/cart racer, a fine example of the genre.
