Kids of today!

SnakeEyes, I think you misunderstood me. I'm not suggesting that kids not be allowed to be kids. I'm suggesting that we have a responsibility as their adult parents (and their first role models) to pass onto them a healthy foundation of interests. I know I speak primarily from the historical standpoint, but this has social ramifications as well. If a parent never had the initiative to take an active role in his or her child's life, it's very likely this child would learn about sex from Grand Theft Auto or violence from Mortal Kombat. I don't mean to say that every child needs to be sat down and subjected to heavy lessons on their parent's culture. It should come naturally in the course of parenting--you know, simply interacting with the child. If your son is an Xbox 1080 gamer, or whatever it is in the future, you can ask him if he wants to try something different instead and pull out an NES or Master System. This is really all it takes.
