Quote from: "The Laird"To be honest it really annoys me when people call Columns a Tetris clone, or any other block dropping puzzle game for that matter. They are different games to play and, although they have a similar play mechanic, have enough variation to make them original in my mind.

I wouldn't say it annoys me but I agree Columns is a completely different game than Tetris. They're both great games though and both have ate up a lot of my time over the years!

Oh and Ice, dig out one of those copies of Tetris and start playing dammit!  :10:

Well, I have never been talked to that way. I kinda liked it! :21:

Okay now this is just getting wierd!  :21:

Here is another Tetris clone, this time the game is 4-Tris on the Mattel Intellivision!

So, this is 3D Pitfall, a clone of Block-Out, which is by itself, a clone of sorts of Tetris. My head hurts.

Acid Tetris (1998) For MS DOS

Acid Tetris! Not really all that crazy as far as Tetris clones go, but man, that music! .mod music is like the laughter of children to me.

Blocks from Hell. The name is probably the most interesting thing about it.

The Simpsons Tetris, obviously not licensed by Matt Groening. Apparently you can play against the AI, that has to count for something.

Simpsons not your thing? Go against the computer in Kentris, the Tetris guy named after Ken Silverman, the guy who would go on to make the Build engine, which would in turn, go on to power games such as Duke Nukem 3D. Cool, huh? Also, the playfields tend to shift back and forth a lot, which is... not typically a feature you see in Tetris clones, for obvious reasons.

Surprise! This isn't Tetris, this is Dr. Rudy, which is a clone of Nintendo's Dr. Ma -- dear god his HEAD.

NYet. This is what games that used ASCII graphics tended to look like on a bad day. But they didn't look that much better on a good day, either.

Mute Fantasies: Tetripz (1997)

And finally, let's round things off for now with Tetripz. Apparently, this is what it's like to play Tetris on LSD. I can't say I've ever done that, nor do I particularly want to, but I appreciate knowing that somebody tried this and made a game out of it.

[align=center:2vn692d6]Not many people seem to know this but Block Out was originally an arcade game by Technos, of Double Dragon fame, and then appeared on a number of home systems including the ST, Amiga, PC, Lynx, NES and Mega Drive.

You know, I never DID play Block Out that much... I guess the few times I tried it, I just could never get my head around the 3D thing. I should give it another shot, although I'm not sure what version I'd go for... maybe I'll give that NES protoype a shot and see what that's like. Lynx version doesn't look that bad, either. Looks like the kind of game it's made for, really, given the concept.

OK, so everyone is posting "Block" games, how about Block Drop on the Atari 7800?!

Here is a rather unique take on the Tetris formula that combines yet another famous franchise:  Pac-Attack!

It's a great game, I have the Philips CD-i version, but I think it's a very different game to Tetris.

Yep, it is intended to be.  It isn't a direct copy of the Tetris gameplay.

There's also Acid Drop on the 2600!

Yeah but that is a Columns clone so I didn't include it.

I guess for health reasons it is time to play Tetris. I saw a snippet on a morning news show about playing Tetris could help with dieting. Not sure of the full connection but any excuse to game is a good one. :21:
