Yeah I've had the misfortune of playing some of those games and they are brutal! Some of them really do border on unplayable.

Yes some of them are extremely tough, but in the end they are still fun, like the Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden  games. Really really hard, but fun and worthwhile to learn getting good at them. I have single-lifed the original Castlevania before.

TMNT was super duper tough, and I made it to the end without beating the final boss. That is frustrating, and I'm sure I had a similar experience with Battletoads at one point.

Another game not in this video that was very hard, but fun, was Batman. Heck, most NES games are hard as nails, but you don't waste too much time with them because they aren't fun and there's no payoff worth wasting your time over. Some are just filled with too many cheap shots and you can't take the stress. I don't think this is anything unique to the NES.

I thought NES Ninja Gaiden was woeful, probably because I am such a fan of the arcade game, which it is nothing like.
