It looks like everyone is now trying to predict the end of Nintendo.  I saw this article and wanted to share it:  Apple Could Put the Final Nail in Nintendo's Coffin.  Keep in mind this is being written from an investor's perspective.

Nolan Bushnell also thinks Nintendo is going the same direction of Atari!

Its a no brainer really.

In fact the market is ready to either collapse or have a new contender come along.

Nintendo is only surviving on old games that are rehashed. You don't need a new system to rehash a game.

I do like Nintendo but they should have gone at the time / in the same way Sega did.

zapiy

Yeah they need to rethink what they are doing and fast.. However with Apple losing market share all the time i think Apple and Nintendo are both looking like they are on the slippery slope..

Yes, it is ironic these people think Apple will be the one to topple Nintendo yet there's stuff like this being published about Apple:  Apple's innovation problem is real.

I'm not a big Nintendo fan, but I think any 'Nintendo is doomed' articles are just sensationalist half-informed opinions trying to lure attention and web traffic. Nintendo has around $10 billion(!) in cash reserves and no debt. They've spent the last 5 years absorbing R&D and manufacturing costs for both a new console and handheld. They'll be in the profit phase of these products for the next few years. After a slow start, the 3DS is selling very well... both hardware and software. The Wii U is finally getting the last of its 'launch' games. There's no way either the 3DS or Wii U will reach the levels of their predecessors, but both will be profitable overall for their lifespan. A headline of 'Nintendo expected to make much lower profits than previous gen' won't draw many web hits though.

I agree but my opinion is based on the gimmicky underwhelming nature of their recent products. The momentum of being at the forefront of the industry can only carry them so long and i suspect its starting to run out.

I would be pleased to be wrong.

Resident Paul had posted the link in this thread already and I had posted about it on Nolan's interview thread already.

Apple and Nintendo are both on a downward spiral but I actually think Apple are more likely to come out of this alive. Right now there is a very good chance that the Wii U will be Nintendo's last console.

TrekMD

Both companies are sitting on a boatload of cash but they appear to have no idea how to best use it to remain relevant.

Indeed.

When the world as we know it one day comes to an end many years from now the only things left will be crocodiles, cockroaches and Mario.

I think Nintendo should release new games for all of their old systems. Wonder if the big N knows, retro is the wave of the future.

Wouldn't that be an interesting move?!?
