Rogue Trooper

Forgot to mention in earlier post:

360 Chrome Hounds? i assume it was mainly online based? (so, if i picked it up now, servers would be dead etc).Anyone played it?.

Also Frame Gride, looking at vids, looks like Sega's Virtual On (a series i've never taken too), but with Armoured Core customiztion options?.

dcultrapro

nah virtual on on the DC is just an arcade shooter with robots. this is Armored Core on the Dreamcast set in Medieval times. Trust me, its made by From Software, its exactly like Armored Core just a different theme/setting.

IF your talkin about From Software games only then I played the Otogi's and the Armored Cores, thats about all I played

If your talking Mech style games, I loved Phantom Crash the most from the Xbox gen followed closely by Mech Warrior 1/2

Has anyone else played Frame Gride on DC? I'm tryin the translated version tonight

I picked up Phantom Crash recently, yet to 'gel' with me though.  :-(

Have to ask, ref:Frame Gride, justy how are Giant Robot's fighting each other in Medievil times? is it yer case of Tech level descended to early medievil era levels after a global war type scenario?.

1 Mech game i've always wanted on Xbox, IMPORT only, Phantom Dust (think it's called that), your the President of the USA in a Mech suit, looked superb, but those prices? strewth....

dcultrapro

nah Phantom Dust is a game I got obsessed over, its a 3rd person action game where you play as a human with super powers and get into fights etc, its awesome. Not sure which game you are describing bud

Ref Frame Gride, not sure its just an alternate world setting where your a knight in a wierd Japanese yet somehow medieval europe style world and you just happen to be able to pilot a giant robot suit of armor. Its all kinda glazed over slightly but its handled in an almost magic related way, as in you have elemental effects etc such as some weapons will have energy based on Ice or Lightning, the robots carry 3 weapons and a shield; a gun, a sword and a shoulder mounted weapon. It looks like your carrying guns but the shots are elementally charged. So my character has a massive sword, a pistol that fires ICE shots and a shoulder cannon that I haven't worked out how to fire again yet lol. Its very unique, definitely has an Armored Core flavour but it is pretty much only 1 on 1 mech missions. But you have lots of health and you and the enemy can summon "Squires" which are basically robotic allies that fight with you.

Great thing about the game is the item generation. When you beat an enemy you are awarded different crystals, also when you beat the squires of an enemy you collect an additional gem so its worthwhile taking out an enemies squires as well. Because you can then use the crystals to make different combinations of parts such as new arms, elemental attack boosts, shields, weapons etc... its brilliant! And there are comprehensive guides etc online and of course now that its translated its a LOT easier to understand what your doing. I tried out my copy of the translated version and not only is it perfect but it is region free!! Its like 2 Dreamcast prayers answered in one go!! I'm happy for a few weeks now lol

:-) Hanging my head in utter shame here, Phantom Dust is indeed an Import Xbox game i want, but prices killed it, but ohhh, how have i done this, the Mech game i'm thinking of, is actually by From Software:

Metal Wolf Chaos.

Now please tell me you have that and it is indeed amazing.

dcultrapro

lol NEVER heard of it! Ima gonna look it up now ;)

Played Frame Gride last night and it was wonderful just being able to navigate all the menus in English... fantastic!!

Quote from: "dcultrapro"Ok so those of you who know me know how nuts I am on my DC.. and you may also know that I like From Softwares Armored Core Series on Playstation and xbox, so to those of you who know and love Armored Core and have a Dreamcast.. your in for a treat.

Frame Gride, also by From Software, was previously partially translated but it is now 100% translated and ready for use. If you want to know more about the translated version contact me via PM/Email

Here is my video on my channel about Frame Gride

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6IIh0XbjLU

For those of you who DON'T know Armored Core it is a mech sim of sorts where by you customise and build your own mech based on a number of principles, its basically the Gran Turismo of the "Mech Warrior" genre. You can have different classes of mechs, different leg types, you can change things as stupidly fiddly as boosters and FC's etc (whatever they are lol) and go on missions. Later versions are now on modern consoles but the original Armored Core was on PS1 and is still to this day one of my favourite all time PS1 games. Here is a vid about Armored Core:

So to clarify the connection between Frame Gride and Armored Core: Frame Gride was From Softwares one and only release on the Dreamcast. It is basically Armored Core in Medieval times, the game is incredible and looks fantastic on Dreamcast but it was only released as NTSC J. So for it to be finally translated is a massive deal because it must've taken serious work and effort to do.

Anyway I didn't think I should link to the location so if anyone wants to know more as mentioned earlier, give me a shout

So, had very quick 'look' into PS2 Armoured Core games, since PS2 is all set up etc,

Armoured Core 2 seems to take a lot of flak, terribly slow, imbalanced parts system, things improved somewhat with Armoured Core 2:Another Age, but some say fundamentally still flawed, with BOTH titles suffering from poor draw distance and chronic slowdown (what? More PS2 games suffering chronic slowdown? say it ain't so...:-) )

Armoured Core 3 however, seems to have fixed gameplay+technical issues, being described as the 'Gran Turismo' of Mecha games, technically sound (Dolby pro Logic II as well, nice touch, just not the Dolby 5.1 in games Sony promised with PS2, eh...  ;_) ).
Press seem to love it:

8/10 GAMEStm, 8/10 EDGE, Off.PS2 mag saying 'It's the Daddy', P2 saying ' (it's) argably the best Mech game'

So, 3 the best place to start?.

dcultrapro

if your going to get into Armored Core/From Software for the first time and don't want to look at the horribly dated graphics of the original PS1 game then yes I'd say so. I had Armored Cores 4 and Answer on 360 and loved Answer but after about 70% of the story its difficulty REALLY ramped up to ridiculous levels so I ended up giving up.

Anyway back to Frame Gride I've been working with it more and started to get used to the controls again, I really like the combat controls, the differences in commands depending on your proximity to the opponent, its a really nice touch. This game is much more shallow an experience than Armored Core but its very much a Dreamcast Game, IE: easy to pick up and play while looking gorgeous. Just have to get used to the lack of an enemy lockon function

someone has posted one online, not me though I have trouble displaying NTSC games, PAL is fine, but other region ones I seem to struggle with DC. I'll try it again tonight I think
