Allow me to start things off, then, if nobody minds. I'll pick Earthworm Jim, because I like Earthworm Jim.

For me, I gotta say the Genesis version wins. This version has a level the SNES version doesn't, and I personally prefer the Genesis's soundtrack. On the other hand, I think the palette is a little less washed out on the SNES version. Great games either way, though.

EDIT: Since Vyo asked, I might as well put up some of the other versions.

Aw, yeah, this is what I'm talking about. More colors, bigger levels, a brand new level exclusive to this version, and a CD soundtrack.

...It's not the worst Game Boy port I've ever seen, but... yeah, this version isn't going to win. The controls are the worst part, since the B button both whips AND shoots. Still kicks the crap out of the GBA version.

Who cares if it's fair or not? I just want to see the differences of all the different versions of things. There's no point just covering some versions  :P

I would put up the Sega CD version, but that version is so much better that it wouldn't be remotely fair.

Maybe this should be on a separate thread from this one?

I just spilt this off as it had nothing to do with 7800 vs. NES

Sorry, I just got interested in Vyo's idea. Mind renaming the thread? Something like '16-Bit Wars' should work.

16-bit wars only works if you just post 16-bit versions  :P

Always wished for a 32X version of this game. I have played the Mega Drive/Sega CD version and agree it is very good.

Rogue Trooper

Going purely off memory here (never a good thing in my case)...MD version was the host development platform for EWJ, with SNES version written alongside?.

There was 'talk' of a 32X version, but having seen the PS1 version, even had it come out, would'nt have expected much other than sharper resolution, more colours, clearer speech samples etc.

Rogue Trooper

Whilst 'here': I'd love to see a MD VS PC Engine thread or done on this 1. A few Sega games on PC Engine as it was, plus seem to remember things like Rastan 2 having better use of colour on PC Engine, where as MD had it's own strengths.

Could offer up  mix of Coin-Op conversions and original games between the 2:Out Run, Afterburner, SF2, Rastan 2, Fantasy Zone, Space Harrier, Devil Crash etc.

TrekMD

Between the SNES and MD, I'm voting for the MD version.  I like the colors better and the sound is better as well.  I also noticed that Jim flickered on the SNES version and I did not see that on the MD version.

Shadowrunner

I like the Gameboy version the best   :P

Okay seriously the Sega CD version obviously looks the best but after that the MD would be second.

Mega CD version wins for me, shame the Jaguar version was never released as I bet that would have looked great.

Going with the crowd on this one, Megadrive is better than the SNES version although I did think the sound on the SNES version was a bit fuller. Having never played the game it looks like I have been missing out.

I liked the SNES version but I felt the Mega Drive version was more playable strangely
