I came up with this idea for discussion just for the fun of it while writing reviews for 2600 games. The question can be applied to any console, though.  I'll get things started with one particular type of sport game...

I did several reviews of the sports titles from both Atari (RealSports and Super) and Activision.  I noticed that there was one game that was never updated by either company on the 2600...Bowling!  There was Atari's original bowling game (video below) but this was an early game for the system that had very simple graphics and it could have benefited from either the RealSports/Super treatment or a better graphical version by Activision.  So, why did neither company ever do it?  Did they feel it couldn't be done better?  Not even current programmers have ever done a better version of this sport for the console.  Why did we never get a RealSports Bowling or an Activision's Bowling?  Let's throw out some theories...
