Sound recording on a PC?

Anyone know of a good free program that can record sound that goes into the mic socket on a PC?

Basically I want to record some game music by plugging a lead into the earphone socket and then into the mic on my PC.

I would also have recommended Audacity, free and very capable sound editing and capture program. You could also use the PC's Sound recorder program which comes with Windows to record a .WAV file

Creative WaveStudio is good too. It's a lot like Audacity. Only reason I switched was because I haven't bothered to get the CD out to re-install itร‚ย  :P

Tried that and it's crap as is limits the recording to 1 minute.

There is a way around that limit
