Due to preparation of the planned adapter for homebrew titles (see other thread) i studied several cartridge housing designs and also asked some vendors about existing housings. During conversation with several big vendors of plastic housings it seems quite easy to get atari homecomputer cartridge compatible housings as the size is similar to existing housing models so quite easy to alter and very cheap, too. But for all other systems like intellivision, coleco, atari 2600 and 7800 it seems to be difficulty to get one which perfectly fits.
So during my study i recognized a gaming vendor from the past which used a clever design. Investigation in production and material indicates it is not a big task to produce large amount of housing for only a few bucks by adopting the method.
My requirement for the upcoming adapter is not very high so a black or white outline is sufficient. As i require most likely a little bit more room for a possible dac and stereo output on the module i may alter the height by 1-2 cm.
As i have a full blown workshop with all required machine the production of prototypes for every system may not a big task.
What are current prices and sources for cartridge housings (for example for homebrew titles)? Does anybody know?
