I took a chance and downloaded this from xbla a few weeks ago, whilst the SEGA sale was on, and it's brilliant!  Anyone else got it/tried it?

If you don't know, this is a twin stick, blast everything, shooter with lovely isometric style graphics.  There's an utterly cheesy story, keeping the game flowing nicely, complete with utterly cheesy characters with shamelessly hammed up voices.

There's a smart scoring mechanism, leaderboards, and there's online & local multiplayer,.  There are 4 playable characters/vehicles each with different capabilities plus some helicopter and boat action.  The more you play the more you can level up and improve your chosen character but more on that in a moment.  There's also a DLC pack with a new character and missions but I haven't gone there - not yet anyway.

The driving and shooting is a lot like Assault Heroes which isn't a bad thing and the helicopter sections feel a lot like the old Strike series - which is a great thing!

There are 9 missions in total.  I finally finished them all on Wednesday evening.  In general this is quite an unforgiving game, in an old school twin stick shooter kinda way.  There are some tough difficulty spikes to negotiate along the way which can be frustrating especially as it's back to the beginning of the mission if you loose all your lives.  How very quaint.  But, once you get into it and start building multiplier scores it gets quite addictive.  Improving the damage multiplier by blasting the enemies increases your score and allows you to unlock ways to improve the vehicles - better weaponry or defences, extra shields, more lives, faster regeneration of items and so on.  These things do make progression that bit easier.

I've been playing this on the 360 so I'll mention the achievements. They're pretty tough to get so if you're into getting achievements for your efforts and, more importantly, your ninja like skill this is not a bad game to make a point.  The majority of points are not for simply progressing through the story.

I may have completed the story, which was satisfying, my leaderboard entries are pretty woeful though so I've since begun to play through on 'Hardcore'.  Higher difficulty = higher scores!!  Bring it!!  I now cannot get past the first mission.  :21:

Ooh, I've played a bit of split screen co-op and it works very well indeed.

A modern game with a very distinct retro flavour.  If you've enjoyed ye olde Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike games and, more recently, Assault Heroes, I did(!), you're going to like this.
