Retro City Rampage welcomes Xbox 360 owners to the mean streets of Theftropolis on January 2, 2013. The official word comes from the game's creator, Brian Provinciano, who tells us the game's launch on PlayStation 3 in Europe and Asia, along with the WiiWare version, should also occur in January.

"Remember that the XBLA version has an additional month of development, polish, tuning and improvements," said Provinciano. Those updates have also been patched into the PS3 and PC versions, which have been available since October 9.

Heres a nice playthrough vid:

I've actually got this on Steam, and I honestly enjoyed what I played so far. It's actually pretty authentic for a faux-retro game. I'm used to so many independent games taking cheap looking sprites and basically saying "Hey, guys, we're retro now, right? Right?" So a game that actually tries to look and sound like an actual NES game is pretty nice. The constant references are kind of eye-rolling, but there are a few that made me chuckle, I'll admit. Like the Dysentruck, the wagon from the old edutainment game The Oregon Trail.

Retro City Rampage has been a HUGE hit on PS Vita, where it sold MORE copies than Steam, PS3 or XBLA and that's NOT including copies which were part of the Playstation Plus offering.

Developer said of getting the game onto XBLA: 'The biggest headache for the smallest reward (XBLA version worst selling version). They (MS) don't make it easy'.

By comparison developer said:

'Both Sony+Nintendo are welcoming to indies'

MS really starting to piss Indie developers off as of late, wonder how much focus will be given to indies on MS's next platform?.

Retro City Rampage FINALLY released for US Wiiware today... a couple months after the other consoles. The Wii version has an extra virtual arcade game called ROM City Rampage that mimics Retro City Rampage as ported to the NES.

I was waiting for a PSN sale, but will probably get the Wiiware version since it has extra content. This game might look better at 480p anyway.

So this game is on normal Wii?  :o

Might have to get it!

Yup. The last 'major' release for Wiiware... standard Wii. Looks like it released in both US and UK/EU today for 1000 points.

In the US, some stores have clearanced Wii point cards lately. You can pay for Wiiware points directly on the Nintendo Store but finding a good deal on point cards is the only way to get a discount. Most Wiiware titles have never had a sale/price drop.

I think that is about £7, hmmmm

Here's something interesting. You know how this game originally started life on NES hardware?

Apparently we're going to see what that was like.

The Wii version and the Steam version will apparently be getting a modified NES emulator that'll play the original NES version of this game. It's amazing how he managed to fit so much of it on the hardware, honestly!

Retro City Rampage sells best on the PS Vita!

I was really surprised (and quite impressed) to hear Brian Provinciano (Vblank Entertainment) announce that the Vita version of Retro City Rampage has sold better that the XBLA and PS3 versions (and this doesn't include PS+ figures!).

News like this and recent figures released by Ubisoft regarding Assassins Creed: Liberation can only go further in encouraging developers to start supporting the Vita.
