Back when the original Grand Theft Auto released in 1997, the prospect of a living three dimensional sandbox was a dream.

Bashing around the original's blocky topdown city was a lot of fun, but with games like Quake hitting the market at around the same time it was difficult to not want GTA to follow suit.

Well, sixteen years later and it looks like we'll finally get the opportunity to see the original GTA in three dimensions. The game's original creator, Michael Dailly, is currently recreating the game from a first person perspective using GameMaker Studio (which is created by YoYo Games, Dailly's current employer).
