Nintendo has announced that they'll be shutting down the Wii Shop channel in 2019. You won't be able to add points after March 26, 2018 and won't be able to make purchases after January 31, 2019. The more troublesome part of the announcement is that you won't be able to re-download your Wiiware/VC purchases after they close the channel completely sometime in 2019.
As much as I hate piracy, it's sad that homebrew channel will become the only way to preserve my $500+ of Wii digital purchases if my Wii ever dies/loses data after 2019.
