lol oh dear, at least in this case the microsoft solution is easy and free. ok its not integrated into any games yet but the Microsoft Smartglass works well with the xbox and my Ipad 2 and has potential for the future and its a free downloadable app for any touch screen device on ice cream sandwich or upwards

Bit of a thread bump, but was reading early article on DLC (around time of Oblivion/ Horse Armour fiasco had settled down), and whilst i knew of 'key unlocks'-paid for downloads to unlock on-disc content and things like Ridge Racer having unlockable cars you could ONLY get by playing on-line (thus having to get GOLD membership), but i was'nt aware of the situation regarding The Godfather on 360.

Article said you could purchase unlocks for 'cash bundles' in the game, which would let you buy the higher powered weaponary, but whilst this cash bundle  WAS present in both the PS2/Xbox versions, all you needed to do was enter a cheat code, on the 360, this cheat had been REMOVED and in it's place was the paid for DLC version of..

And article mentioned how Sony had originally planned PS3 Gran Turismo HD to be Micro-transaction focused (buy bare bones game on disc) bulk of cars, tracks etc you'd have to buy via DLC, but downsized concept to demo.only.WHY?

Fear was players would spend less in total buying bare bones game+few odds n sods DLC wise, than they would have, buying Full game, physical release.

I love all my modern games, I rarely complete one 100% for achievements I normally just complete a campaign and play mutliplayer for a while. But I agree the game industry at the moment is pretty shameless its disgusting. I'm just kinda glad that the ps3 flopped comparatively speaking (to the ps2) and that hopefully the wii-u will too. You never know, there might be room for Sega to come back yet lol... but we've said this all before, the old days are the best

Buying at a midnight launch isn't an achievement. If this works, maybe they'll start including exclusive achievements with Collector's Editions.

Personally, I think trophies/achievements are a neat idea... if they're based on meaningful objectives beyond normal gameplay. Nice to get a 'reward' if you AAA every mission, or win 10 online matches in a row, etc. But chasing trophy counts or achievement scores is foolish. If you want a bunch of trophies just play kiddie games. They all count the same. I could have 20 platinums by now if I played through all of my kids' PS3 games.

yep, in past seeing friends high scores has been the incentive to drive me on, certain smugness getting your name above those of your mates, throws down the gauntlet, so to speak.

A ping and trophy/achivement unlocked for playing online for 5 mins or recomending a user created level or completing a tutorial, is just lame.

Don't forget the 'rewards' offered in some games for the titanic 'achievement' of linking a game to one's Facebook account to spam said social networking site with free advertising for the game that you've already paid money to purchase.

Online leaderboards too for sure. But a really hard to get achievement that rewards skill and not just slogging could be cool.
