Well this came up in discussion about Uncharted 3 and it was suggested as good topic for a thread so....

Which franchises have basically run their course, i.e new instalments, whilst graphically better etc, are just falling way short in terms of new ideas etc.Which franchises should be put out to pasture for a few years, come back reborn, or not at all?.

I'll start ball rolling:

Uncharted:Whilst i'm sure the Vita game is technically marvelous etc, by the end of Uncharted 3, i'd had my fill of Drake and crew. The series has been fantastic, great new I.P for Sony, real shot in the arm for PS3 etc etc, but personally it peaked with Uncharted 2.The rollercoaster has been ridden, time to get off, check out the new rides and let Naughty Dog focus on new I.P's for new platforms.Giving it to someone else just means a copy and paste affair i feel.

Resistance:Fall Of Man:Perhaps not the 'PS3 Halo' Sony wanted, but very good alt.history take on the FPS genre (and i loved the 3rd person PSP game), but story been told, by the end of Resistance 3 and it's cop-out ending, nothing more to see here, even developer got bored with it.No need for a lack lusture Vita game.

Wipeout:Loved the series (well bar Fusion on PS2, far too sterile), but it's had the PSP reboot, then the HD reboot, then the Vita origins of...take, sure it'd look lush on PS4 and hopefully 'true 1080P', 60 FPS etc, but throwing ever more fancy neon shit my way, is not a better game going to make.

Halo:Been there since the 1st, followed the story, hell bought the novels, jobs done, wars over, leave it MS, just leave it.Ditto for Gears Of war, stories told, don't need prequels, spin off's etc.

Killzone:whilst i loved 2+3, MP on 3 was'nt as good as it was on 2, ending of 3 pretty much put paid to much in way of plot development..loved the side story on PSP, but unless PS4 future games are going to have you playing from the Helghast's view, really don't think there's any more road left to tread here.

New installments with a bigger number tacked on are not going to sell either PS4 or Xbox One to me, MS/Sony, nor is more bloody COD or Battlefield E.A/Activision.
