So, this is a spinoff of Epic Mickey 2. I haven't played the first one, but from what I hear, it's basically a decent if nothing amazing 3D platformer about Mickey Mouse. I haven't played it myself, I plan to sometime, but from what I hear, the real draw is all the Disney fanservice they've put in. But this topic isn't about that!
See, Power of Illusion is a 3DS game, and it's a 2D platformer by the guys who brought you Henry Hatsworth on the DS. If you haven't played it, you should, because it's a really good platformer that plays like a cross between Mega Man X and Tetris Attack.
What makes Power of Illusion retro is that it's actually supposed to be a direct sequel to all the 'X of Illusion' games Sega did for the Genesis/Megadrive and Master System/Game Gear. There's also a lot of references to older games, like Aladdin's world being taken straight from the SNES game. You can also summon partners to help you fight enemies, like Scrooge McDuck, who bounces around on his cane. It's a beautiful game from the videos I've seen, with some fantastic animation and a lot of remixes of Sega's old music.
I'm bad at describing things, honestly, so here's a video instead. It's pretty long, so feel free to skim it and take a look!

I love it, i have just purchased 2 XL 3DS's for my eldest 2 kids.. I know they will want it.
I was disappointed that the first Epic Mickey only came out on the Wii, it looked really cool but I wasn't going to buy a Wii for one game. Really looking forward to the sequel now that it's multi platform and this spinoff game.
Epic Mickey was ok but it was pretty frustrating sometimes, a lot of the time you got badly penalised for being unable to pass a particular point, if you died you'd have to go back a bit and do all the stuff you had done AGAIN. and its camera was pretty annoying and OBVIOUSLY the one thing worse than any was having to use the wii remote, although the way it was used was fairly novel, though after a while you get bored and wish you had a proper control pad for grown ups.
I'm looking forward to the sequel coming to the 360 as it might have kinect functionality but I doubt I will ever see the DS version as I don't tend to fall for Nintendo's vampiric money leeching stratergy that is the DS... I'd be PISSED if I bought the original 3ds only to find less than a year later that the XL was coming out... but that's me
