Activision's new Leeds-based studio is currently working on an updated mobile version of '80s classic Pitfall.

It was previously thought that the newly established British studio would be hard at work on the latest Call of Duty mobile title after UKIE chairman Andy Payne revealed that Activision Leeds will be producing all future handheld versions of the world-beating FPS.

However, Activision communications director Martyn Brown surprised CoD fans when he told MCV that Activision Leeds's first release will, in fact, be a reboot of the Atari 2600 bestseller Pitfall.

"We've been working on Pitfall since earlier in the year when we set up and it has been really good to revisit that and bring it to a modern audience," Brown said.

The original game, which involves guiding Pitfall Harry though a hazardous jungle environment packed with crocodiles, scorpions, and *gasp* barrels, celebrates its 30th birthday this year.

Brown also hinted at what the future holds for Activision Leeds by making reference to Activision's extensive back catalogue of intellectual properties.

"Being able to call upon a wide portfolio of properties is really good for us and we are looking forward to finally showing it to more people," Brown explained.

Wait, but what system(s) are they releasing this update for?

I would assume it will be PSN, XBLA and iOS as usual, possibly Android too.

Hmm, I guess I'll have to keep an eye on it.  If they released it for the PSP that'd be great.  Of course, I won't complain if it comes to Android also.
