The Nintendo NES is no stranger when it comes to brand new homebrew games. Having seen a whole host of new releases hit the console in the last few years, you won't be that surprised to learn that another adventure is fast approaching the 8-bit system - Pyronaut.

While not strictly a new game in its entirety, Pyrnonaut is an elaborate hack that uses the barebones of Konami's Castlevania 2 code to recreate an all new title. With all new visuals, gameplay, music, and more, Pyronaut leaves little traces of its roots behind once seen.

After responding to a distress signal from a nearby planet, our hero Romeo Ratuno casts you into an open-world action platformer in the same vein of the Metroid series. Equipped with an explosive flamethrower and jetpack, you'll find yourself battling various alien lifeforms (with many other upgrades and weapons too) as you attempt to venture into the mystery behind the planet's transmission.

Although there is plenty still to be revealed about the game and its release date, the team behind this homebrew-hack recently uploaded a video showcasing Pyronaut. With what appears to be solid gameplay, coupled with a fantastic story and soundtrack, this is one Nintendo NES development you won't want to miss.
