Perhaps this isn't a very original game, but since the original Freeway game by David "Pitfall!" Crane for the Atari 2600 was never released for the MSX or Master System Paulo Silva (a.k.a. Nitrofurano) decided to give it a try (with some small differences). This game is the result of that hard work and was developed on Boriel's ZX-Basic Compiler. The sources of the game will also be released, palette will be "enhanced" for MSX2, and it will probably will be released for Colecovision and SG-1000 as soon as he can figure out how to do that from Boriel's ZX-Basic Compiler!

The original Freeway was one of the first titles released by Activision in their effort to publish independent games for the Atari 2600. One or two players control chickens who can be made to run across a ten lane highway filled with traffic in an effort to "get to the other side." Every time a chicken gets across a point is earned for that player. If hit by a car, a chicken is forced back either slightly, or pushed back to the bottom of the screen, depending on what difficulty the switch is set to. The winner of a two player game is the player who has scored the most points in the two minutes, sixteen seconds allotted.

Both the MSX and SMS versions have been released to download for free and so will the other versions that follow. There is a development topic for the Master System version over at SMS Power forum while the thread for the MSX version can be found over at Karoshi forum. We will bring more information on the ColecoVision and Sega SG-1000 versions when we have it. For now you can download it and give it a try!
