Had it made it's way to the UK, i'd been all over the PC Engine, like a rat up a drain pipe.
Sadly, it did'nt so i was'nt.Shame, real shame....
Well it kind of did through Telegames, I myself own a UK TurboGrafx console, but I get your point. A full blown release would have been great, I reckon it would have sold very well too with all the great arcade ports.
Yeah, big shame a full UK release never happened, yeah the arcade ports would have made the console sell well, same as why the Master System outsold the NES in the UK as Sega arcade games were big news, Nintendo only had the Turtles and Mario 1 to sell their console.

I would'nt worry DC, over the years i've been called:
A Jaguar fanboy and later a Sony Fanboy, based on 1) My emails to a certain editor of a certain magazine over a certain article (sounds like plume.....) and 2)daring to point out that PS3 version of a game auctually is better than a 360 version, even Offical 360 magazine making note of in it's review.....
Oh, I'll freely admit to despising Sony! Back in the days of PlayStation they were mostly okay but once the arrogance got a grip they lost the plot and haven't recovered since. I bypassed PS2 for so many reasons I could write a book onÂ
and only bought a PS3 as it, erm, wasn't an Xbox 360.
Illegal business practices many years ago aside, I've never disliked Ninty historically speaking. The fact I own pretty much every Ninty console they've released (crappy NES and meh SNES aside) including even the Virtual Boy attests to that. It's the Ninty of today that I consider to be an absolute joke. I only get irritated in discussing the Ninty of old when the fanboys start up with their revisionist history and need to proclaim everything Ninty to be amazing, innovative and revolutionary. That's what gets my goat, not the company itself.

Seeing PC Eng.coverage in Zzap 64 (a feature on consoles), ACE+The Games Machine, really had me interested in the console, but at same time, saw lots of be careful when running import machine, washed out colour issues etc, thought, right i'll wait for UK release then, which never came.
Was wary of mail order, after the Mega Drive i'd bought via mail order from pages of C+VG (KC's Consoles?) refused to work with the MCD i bought locally (luckily chap i bought MCD off was kind enough to swap my MD wioth a brand new MD from his stocks) and had also had issues with companies cashing my cheques, goods not arriving, so would have been looking for PC Engine in high street stores.
I'm willing to make allowances for hardware companies many mistakes, after all, bought a Dreamcast after being burnt my MCD and seeing the 32X fiasco and Sega messing up the Saturn, due to, among other things, the arrogance that no-one could touch them in 32Bit hardware market, other than Namco.
The likes of the STe, Falcon failing, Lynx being so poorly supported should have made me wary of Atari, when buying a Jaguar at launch, but (then) only place to find Tempest 2000 and AVP, so sold.
Nintendo...i have no real feelings for as such, if their hardware has the games i want, i'm sold, only it always seems to be the 3rd party games on Nintendo formats that appeal to me, rather than their own.Mario, Zelda, F-Zero etc never really had me hooked way other games in their genres have.
Does often astound me to hear respected sites and publications describing how NES saved the industry, when A)It had such little impact in UK and B)Someone would have created a piece of hardware that got folks gaming once again, in areas where it'd reached saturation point.
You've got to hand it to Nintendo when it comes to handhelds, GB was a massive success at a time many industry pundits described it as primitive, a flash in the pan etc, but i often look at Nintendo hardware and wonder just how different things would have been say IF Sony had Pokemon and had kept Monster Hunter as an exclusive etc.
Lord alone knows what's selling the 3DS in Japan at moment, games seem to be drip fed.
Sony:often had great tech, but done nothing with it, Move was around since PS2 Eye Toy tech was developed and seeing how huge Eyetoy was on PS2, i'd have expected it (Move) as standard or at very least launched alongside PS3 Eyetoy 2, rather than knee-jerked out in response to Wii and Kinect.
IMO Nintendo should just stick to making handhelds from now on, they just can't compete in the console market

did you see my console overview of the TGX PAL region version that I uploaded on the RVG youtube channel at all mate? none of the things people have said are bad about the console are true. it has no graphical issues or colour problems and works fine with all NTSC carts. All that crap about the pal version not working that well was just BS that no one researched properly. I bought mine online via an ebay seller and it was a flawless sale. Though I can understand why you would be reticent back then when it was based around trust a lot more with mail order lol
regarding the best consoles of all time I don't know what order mine would go exactly but might look something like this:
Sega Dreamcast
Sega Saturn
Microsoft X360
Mega Drive et al
Master System
Microsoft Xbox
Atari Jaguar
Atari Lynx
Turbo Grafx 16
Sega Game Gear
Nintendo Gamecube
Sony Playstation
Sony Playstation 2
Nintendo Wii
I haven't played on or owned any others and I find it really tough to order these lists correctly based on my experiences but I'd have to say the DC and saturn win it hands down thanks to games like PSO, Headhunter, Shenmue, Rez, PDS, Burning Rangers, Steep Slope Sliders, Dragon Force, Warcraft 2, Street Fighter Alpha and tonnes of others from both catalogues that I had such wonderful experiences with
Ultrapro on xbox live

I've not seen it (yet) mate, sounds like usual poor research on behalf of jurno's there.
Thanks for the heads up.
Cheers for the link, laird, that's an outstanding video, even better when you started playing Ninja Spirt mate.
I was always under the impression that unless you had your Pal PC Engine moddied, you'd suffer washed out piccture, with red, in particular looking just wrong, so it was either mod or buy Pal booster device etc, yet as soon as you had Side Arms on screen, all myth's quashed!.
PC Engine still impresses me after all these years.

Yeah I really love my PAL TurboGrafx, Ultrapro wanted his after playing on mine at Retrovision earlier this year and did the machine justice in his video.
If Ultrapro had been old enough to advertise for the Turbo way back when then I would be playing on the Turbo Grapfx 512 right now. That was a great video he made!
