Dan Aykroyd has said that Ghostbusters 3 could begin filming as early as next year.
Aykroyd, who is working on a new sequel with original series director Ivan Reitman, revealed that he feels "re-encouraged, reinvigorated" by writer Etan Cohen's new screenplay.

"I know that we're expecting half of the screenplay to be completed very soon. It should be into production by the fall and be shooting by the New Year," he told ABC News.
"I won't say anything, it's very exciting. The Higgs boson and the particle theories, gluons and mesons, that really gives us a scientific base in terms of our fictional storytelling, to open up to another dimension and have something horrible come through."

Aykroyd added that Ghostbusters 3 will put the franchise into "ninth gear" and attempt to bring back Bill Murray's Peter Venkman.
"It's going to be very, very exciting. I've been more encouraged than I ever have been. It sounds real now," he said.
"We've got a sharp new writer on it, Ivan is on it, Harold [Ramis] is on it, I'm on it. And if I can put the catch-net on Billy [Murray] and bring him in, it will be wonderful, if he decides to do it. There will always be a hole for him."
Aykroyd insisted that Murray never read the previous Ghostbusters 3 script, which he worked on with The Office duo Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.
"I don't think he read it, because, you know what? If he'd read the second draft that I completely rewrote, he would be doing the movie," he explained. "If he'd read that draft. The part I wrote for him."[/align:uv6uazwf]

How long have wee been teased about that movie?
I really hope it happens, IF they do it right. Aykroyd, Reitman, Ramis... don't mess up!

Yeah, considering the gap since GB2 they will need all the original stars and it will have to be both nostalgic and bang up to date at the same time. Let the plasma flow...
For the record, Alien verses Predator on the Atari Jaguar holds a Guinness World Record!
To remove any awkwardness, I have mesothelioma. I don’t seek sympathy, just acceptance. Thanks
It will be a hell of a task to pull off successfully thats for sure
I hope it will not end like with Star Wars. For Episode I there was also a build up and expectations that were impossible to meet; even if the movie had not sucked.^^
The gap between GB II and III will be even larger. IF the movie was shot early next year, we can expect a 2015 release... 26 years after the last one!
Hollywood will want some young and attractive new Ghostbusters (stars who don't look good are not acceptable anymore, none of the original cast would be cast if they were young and GB was shot today), yet the old fans will not be happy if the original crew is not the focus.
It will be damn hard to please anyone with this movie.

Oh, I'm sure they'll introduce a new generation of Ghostbusters. For all we know, they story will deal with these going either going into or coming out of retirement.
