Voting Has Closed for the Amstrad CPC Gamers’ Choice Award 2018

Looking back at the current generation gaming scene for the Amstrad CPC in 2018, it is hard to not be impressed by the vast range of quality titles for this great machine. Gone is the stigma of the platform being subject to quick and dirty ZX Spectrum ports, now replaced with games that are developed with care and passion to bring out the best that the Amstrad has to offer.

To celebrate the current generation Amstrad gaming scene, RetroGamerNation is running its inaugral Amstrad CPC Gamers’ Choice Award for new games released in 2018 where you the Amstrad gamer get a chance to vote on up to 3 of your favourite games from the list of nominees. Poll ends on 25 March 2019 at 11:59PM (UTC).

77 Attempts

77 Attempts is a platform game based on the original “Super Meat Boy”. ​You reincarnate Alex, a nice creature who has lost his beloved, the queen of gravity. The evil villain ​Attempo has kidnapped her to absorb her powers and reverse the gravity of the planet. ​Attempo ​​is on vacation and is the perfect opportunity for our hero to go and save his beloved. ​Attempo’s evil henchmen will try to stop Alex, who will have to be quick to avoid all the traps set by the despicable ​Attempo​​. You have ​77 Attempts to complete the 56 levels​​.

 


Adventures of Timothy Gunn

The war among crime families has flooded the streets with blood. The mayor has requested Timothy Gunn’s services he needed few words to describe his mission…“If they move, kill ’em!”

The goal of the game is to annihilate every gangster that roams the city quarters, and to gather enough evidence to prove the families’ crimes. For this purpose, the player controls Timothy Gunn, who can run, jump and crouch, and who’s initially armed with a pistol.

 


Chaos Rising

EgoTrip’s final project for the Amstrad CPC sees Amy return in another arcade adventure game featuring Mode 1 graphics where your role is to to navigate your way through a game world of single flip screens, avoiding enemies and solve puzzles in order to gather all the precious jewels.

 


Dawn of Kernel

A distress call has been received from the mining base on planet K3R-NL of the Leonis system. A virus has infected their network, causing a life support malfunction that has forced all personnel to evacuate the base. The message includes an unauthorised payload: KERNEL LIVES

The Dawn of Kernel is a flip-screen shoot’em up requiring skill and reflexes to navigate a complex map full of deadly enemies controlled by a rogue Artificial Intelligence.

 


Deeper Warrens

Developed by Arnaud Bouche

Deeper Warrens is an action/rpg game inspired by Gauntet. The goal is to reach the level 25 to find the treasure room. To achieve this you have to gain experience by killing monster and buying equipment with the gold found.

 


Galactic Tomb

You play the role of a commander of the elite of the imperial army, who has been appointed to carry out a mission to look for magical objects that are required to prolong the life of the current emperor. To do so, you will need to explore through three different worlds of hostile enemies and terrain.

 


Hibernated 1: This Place Is Death

Hibernated is a text-only adventure that works with two word logic. The first interactive story in an epic trilogy centered around Olivia Lund, who has been sent on an interplanetary exploration mission by the Terran Alliance. After being in hypersleep for more than 200 years and with more than 800 light-years being travelled, her ship, the Polaris-7, crosses paths with a gigantic alien vessel and is captured by a tractor beam. Olivia soon finds out that this may not be her only problem.


Jarlac

A flick screen platform game, the goal in Jarlac is to return his love Arlett to human form. To do this, it is necessary to going around the game world hacking and slashing enemies to collect 13 heart fragments the lost parchment that contains the spell that will break the curse that petrified his beloved.


Legend of Steel

Legend of Steel is an action and dungeon exploration game where you must fight with countless enemies, find keys to open doors, obtain gold and, with our skill, find the hidden chamber where the secret of the immortality of the delorians is hidden.


Operation Alexandra

During one of his usual patrols by Alexandra Land, Russian Army Officer Mihail Mashkov, he discovers an old abandoned Nazi base and quickly discovers that he is not alone and that something no from this world has taken over the base. A flick screen arcade adventure game featuring plenty of platform jumping action with some shooting elements.

 


OPQA vs QAOP: The Final Battle

Developed by Manuel Sagra

An interesting reinterpretation of Tetris style game, the main objective of the game is to form groups of pieces of the same colour -four at least- in order to send “trash” to the other player, so their board is filled and so the rival is defeated. Pieces doesn’t have to be in line, they can be joined arbitrarily.


Shadows of Sergoth

The year 3000, and you have just transported yourself into a virtual world where you are to infiltrate Adolf Hitler’s bunker and shoot him and his colleagues dead before he commits suicide. The game adopts a top down view and requires stealth in order to progress through out.
