I bought this game on the Genesis years ago and enjoyed it but always thought the control was a little off.  Not too long ago I finally picked up the Jag version and couldn't believe how much better the control was. I knew the graphics would be better but I had no idea how much better the Jag version was.

Totally! I often hear people call the Jag version another lame 16-bit port and say its no better than the MD and SNES versions but they couldn't be more wrong. The Jag version is a big upgrade IMO with much better graphics, better gameplay and wonderful sound too. A very under rated game for the Jag.

I think people will just underrate anything that is Jaguar related without laying a finger on the system!  You know, the voice of the ignorant experts!

Are we talking about the same Pitfall game for the Jaguar?

There is only one! I did post a video!  :P

Okay, I have the correct game. Just wondering what everyone likes about this version? I have the Atari Jaguar, Genesis, 32X and Sega CD versions.

Ive never tried the 32X or Sega CD versions, how do they compare?

I have the Mega CD version, it's the next best version after the Jag.

Reasons why the Jag version is the best:

  • Far more on screen colours
  • Much better animation
  • Better music and sound effects (Mega CD version has great music though)
  • Much higher frame rate
  • No slowdown
  • Seems to control much better

Also the box claims that it contains gameplay not found in the other versions but I am not 100% sure what this is.

It would be interesting to find out what this is!

Good reasons to like the Jaguar version. I like the 32X version for the same reasons as Laird likes the Mega CD version. Pitfall on the 32X is probably the best you will find for a Sega System.

Maybe we need a TrekMD comparison video? Or is there one posted?

Haven't seen videos comparing these newer versions of Pitfall in YouTube.  I'd have to search to see if there are any.

Seems to be the only comparison of newer versions of Pitfall!

That is a start. Thanks TrekMD!

TrekMD

Well, at least you can look at the video Laird posted and compare to this latter one I posted.  :)
