Sadly, this did not get funded but it will returning based on what Marc posted.  I'll be sure to post about it when the new Kickstarter starts.  :)

Yes it's a shame and I think splitting the book is the only answer here aiming at around the £25 to entice the U.K. Market and about â,¬28/$32. I know you never wanted to do that Marc but look at other successful kickstarters to do with retro books and you will get a clearer idea where to start. Also I would speak to Chris Wilkins is I was you and see if you could work a deal to get him to support and promote your book. Feel free to DM me if you want any help on that score.

Hmm, I am a bit late to the party as usual but I saw this kickstarter a while back. This thread has been very helpful in pursuading me that this book might be of interest to me even at the high price. The redesigned cover is much, much better. My only gripe, as always, is how come you didn't cover the Jaguar?

Marc posted this at AA:

I'm planning to split the book into 3 volumes, Vol. 1 2600/5200/7800, Vol. 2 2600/Atari Home Computer/Lynx, Vol. 3 Atari ST/Jaguar. This will help to reduce the costs for a single book with 416 pages. Additionally, the shipping costs for Europe can be reduced due to weight changes (from pages 700+ to 416 < 2kg). The new KS for Volume 1 will most likely start next week.

That's sounds like a better idea rather than a huge expensive epic slab. It also gives the chance to refine details between releases. I'd certainly be interested in the ST/Jaguar volume. I think that's a great combination.

Looks like Atari has their lawyers now on this. Here is a post from Marc from AA:

QuoteSo Atari is not only going for their logo on the front, they are going for everything:

Description of copyrighted material: in-game graphics, screenshots, box art, and logos from classic Atari video games
Description of infringing material: physical book to feature uncleared reproductions of the copyrighted material

Before I started the KS I tried to get in touch with Atari by email, Facebook, customer support and even regular mail to France as well to the USA and never heard back from them. Same like the trading cards for the 2600; first there was very kind contact, but out of the blue I just got no replies anymore.

There are at least 18 comparable KS projects/books from 2013 up to 2017 (including Nintendo and Sega themes)...

I'll try to get in contact with Atari to discuss the matter.

Yeah annoying, i can understand the giant Atari logo on the front, and logo and typeface cant be the same, its their design after all, but the rest should go under fair use, that's the thing i was annoyed about the other Neogeo book english edition being dropped, people have a right of fair use, i mean thats complete BS about them having copyright over a screenshot of a game or photo or a box, its no different to a website having thousands of images of their games, godforbid the amount Atari Age use their logos and images its crazy to allow one and not the other (bar the logo use of course)

Hmm, I really like the idea of three volumes and I would very happily buy all three. The modern incarnation of Atari makes me sick at times, the company, as we knew it, died a long, long time ago and the younger generation of today don’t know who they are. If they made their entire back catalogue of games and images free to all, then, and only then, would the name and brand get current day recognition and Atari could move forward into the modern era with modern and innovative hardware and maybe software. Start again Atari and reinvent the wheel - that is how legends are made!
