The 8-bit home computers introduced us to a hole new set of heros that lit up the pixels on our TV sets.

From the early days of Horace on the Spectrum to the legendary Miner Willy and iconic Monty Mole they all played a part in our child hoods.

So who was the biggest 8-bit hero of the early computer years?

Mire Mare

Magic Knight for me if only because I loved Finders Keepers when I was a kid.  Exploring and combining items was simply a lot of fun.  Cheese + A Mouse = A fat mouse and after making gunpowder and adding the spark to it... *BOOM*  Loved it.

I had to go with Dizzy, mainly for the spin-offs rather than the puzzle orientated platformers.

I love Kwik Snax, Fast Food and Bubble Dizzy  8)

Yeah Dizzy ruled! Great character and great games on all platforms.

Looks like you forgot to actually vote!  :o

sorry but for me none of the above I would class as heroes..an unsung hero of mine from the 8-bit decade has to be Miner 2049er on the Atari 8-bit, he had 2 games made after him and involved devilish jumps and platforming and still to this day is one of the greatest 8-bit heroes of mine..alone with Rockford from Boulder Dash... can't believe these where not on the list  :-[

I dunno, I included Cuthbert (Dragon 32) and Roland (Amstrad) along side more well known folks who appeared on all the machines.

Minerals

Was a hard choice but went for Dizzy in the end, due to the variety of different quality games he has been in, with Rockford a close second and Miner Willy third.

I went for Horace. Iconic times for me and this character is always the first name that springs to mind when I talk about 8 Bit gaming.

There is an interview with the creator of Miner 2049'er in the latest issue of Atari User

I had to go for other as my vote lies with Sabreman and Miner Willy coming a close second. I loved Sabre Wulf, Undewurlde and Knight Lore and how well all the games were linked together.

DreamcastRIP

Miner Willy. Anyone voting to the contrary is clearly mistaken!
