GCW-Zero: A new upcoming Open Source Handheld

The upcoming GCW-Zero is a portable gaming system based on the Ingenic jZ4770 1GHz processor.

Seems that the hardware and OS are still in "prototype stages", but it looks pretty promising, as devs are currently accepting suggestions from the Open Source community.

I really really really wish that all these manufacturers would stop using the 4 way joypad and diamond shaped button layout from the SNES. It's shit and I hate it, I would kill for a open source handheld with a Megadrive style pad and button layout.

Yeah I guess it's a simple way to design and implement though.

Thing is, these handhelds are designed with emulation in mind, and therefore have to cater to the most combinations of machines joypads, so having the Megadrive joypad layout is fine for the Megadrive but for snes, ps1 etc it's better in the now it seems standard layout.

Well, I figured it was time to post an update about this.  The GCW Zero is finally shipping!  Mine is on its way and I should have it in about a week.  I'm really looking forward to this!
