Looks like the folks from Piko Interactive will be releasing a new game for the Jaguar:  Custodian.  They posted this on Facebook, though not much detail is given.  There is a partial picture of the box.  I understand that Custodian is a game on the Atari ST.  What I don't know is if the are releasing an updated version of the game for the Jaguar or doing an ST port.  Has anyone played this game?

Here is a video of the ST game:

I've never heard of the game before but very cool to see Jag development from Piko!

Yes I've play Custiodian on both the ST and Amiga and is more or less a shootem'up on legs, you dash around blasting everything it wasn't a bad title and music was written by David Whittaker , it should appeal to jaguar fans, but this game is like 1987-1988 circa like nearly 30 years old , these jag Devs should be really doing something original, rather than dumping St code yo run on an Atari Jaguar. I suppose after Reboot getting away with it, now these are jumping on the band waggon. And adding new sfx or music does not make for a worthy release..just in case this is mentioned.

Yeah, would be interesting to know if this is recovered code or a port?

Piko has made good games for the systems they've worked on.  I hope they have created an updated version of the game.

Oh, 100% mate, actually they are brilliant at what they do.. I have no issues with ports, lets be honest the game industry still exists on game ports...

there is a difference between a port and a hack. hopefully it's an actual port but I have to say I remain skeptical.

I've got plenty of original jaguar games in the works.

That's good!  Looking forward to them.  :)

TrekMD

Oh, so should we be expecting a new version of the game for the Jaguar?

TrekMD

Yes, that's why I'd be happy if that were the case because that'd be a new developer for the big cat.

That's cool.  I had never heard of Venus so I checked it out.  Looks interesting.

Here what's it looks like incase you couldn't locate it as it's not simply called Venus.

TrekMD

Yes, that's what I found.  It's Venus The Flytrap.

Pre-orders are now live for Custodian on the Piko site for anyone interested.

I hate to say it but I think I might skip this one, and I buy just about every homebrew Jag release! From looking at the screen shots on their site it looks like this is a straight port with no improvements made, and they're charging $74.99 for it. I know they said the first release would be more expensive in order to cover the costs of getting into Jag development but there's gotta be another way of doing it.

The shipping is also outrageous. I added to cart and went to check out to see what it would cost me, and they are charging $16 for regular no tracking shipment that could take up to 45 days to arrive, and $42 with full tracking! If I'm going to spend that much on a game, I'm going to want tracking on it, putting the total up to $116.99! And that's USD, if I convert that to CDN it's going to be a lot more.

I really want to support these guys in the hopes that they release more Jag games, but there's no way I'm paying that much for a 16 bit port.

TrekMD

Hmm, I think I'm with you on this one.  I had hoped they'd do an updated version of the game, not a direct port of the 16-bit version.  I guess this trend was started already and it is not necessarily the best.
