I was wondering if anybody else here had one of these truly ground breaking computers back around the mid-late eighties like me.

It was my first creative computer and the first computer I owned that I used in the same way as you would a regular Windows PC today.

I used to digitize Boris Vallejo artwork with Digi-View and make my own music by sampling instruments with my CD player attached or digitize huge animation sequences and use them as animated brushes in Dpaint III.

I also used to do programming on my machine.

But what I remember most of all was compared to the schools Nimbus 80186 PC it was better built, quieter, faster, nicer to type on, nice to use. It was just such a special machine and it is the retro machine that defines the Ground Hog style days I would choose to repeat forever because for the first time it was more than just for playing games on like my C64 and it really could do everything I wanted.

Such a lovely machine.

Hi and thanks for the welcome :21:

I have bought 4 brand new Commodore computers on launch year in the UK, my VIC-20, C64 breadbin, Amiga 2000 and Amiga 1200. I was never disappointed with any of them. I love many different computers and all have their great points but the company I consistently liked the most was Commodore. They made some real turkeys sure but when they got it right it was the best machine available for me personally.

Hi there and welcome aboard, sorry for the delayed response but xmas has been very busy..

So yes the awesome machine that is the Amiga, as GF said i loved playing with Deluxe Paint, sadly never achieved the same level of skills like my man GF.. I guess I mainly drooled over games like Shadow of the Beast and all the Bitmap Brother games, used to love the Demo scene stuff also.. oh and the Pro Tracker program for music was something I spent many many hours playing with.

Own: Jaguar, Lynx, Dreamcast, Saturn, MegaDrive, MegaCD, 32X, GameGear, PS3, PS, PSP, Wii, GameCube, N64, DS, GBA, GBC, GBP, GB,  Xbox, 3DO, CDi,  WonderSwan, WonderSwan Colour NGPC

Thanks :)

I remember the Amiga 1000 was the first computer I got that I bought a hi-fi specifically for as TV speakers didn't do it justice haha but I never really did any good tunes on it myself. I wish I still had all the art I did for it, like the first Enigma album cover in 32 colours on DPaint 3 using the blend and smear functions.

They are really rare now though sadly, not seen one on ebay for a long time. Always wanted a boxed USA model as the UK box is very boring white with some blue stripes. Dread to think how much a boxed one would cost today.

For me, the regrets of not migrating my Amiga artwork across to the PC back in 1996 with my A1200 just before joining the PC Race..will forever haunt me to this day, I do however remember the very first painting or image on deluxe Paint 3, was Garfield and Cody , outlined with zero knowledge of the program at the time based upon my experience with the Atari ST and its own Paint packages I used the Gradient Tool to create those fantastic sky backgrounds lol..and with no layer facility at the time, was painting on one canvas, a very tricky procedure if you made a mistake  :21:

But it was the music that set the Amiga alight, when I discovered Soundtracker and with the cost of floppies at the time, couldn't justify the near 100 disks for the samples disks accompanied with Soundtracker back in the day, I had about 30 of them, but it was a whole new world, for those interested I am listed on the AMP "Amiga Music preservation" website and you can check out the rubbish I wrote lol. over here some of the Modules are quite rough around the edges, but showed some great procession throughout my time on the Amiga.
