So, it's the 2015 Christmas season and it is time to check out our first review of the week.  And to be in keeping with the season, let's have a look at one Christmas title for the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive.  Enjoy![/align:1pu9q8it]

In this sequel to the original James Pond, we see events take place shortly after the end of that game and the defeat of Dr. Maybe. Except it seems Dr. Maybe has survived and has taken refuge in none other than Santa Claus's toy factory in the North Pole! Dr. Maybe has trapped Santa's helpers and has twisted them for his own evil purposes. They now are his assistants and they are planting bombs disguised as penguins throughout the factories. They will detonate in 48 hours if you don't put an end to Dr. Maybe's plans. To assist you in your mission, you are outfitted with a special Robosuit that gives you special powers. Because of this suit you are referred to as Robocod! With the suite you can stretch yourself and smash meanies. Robocod must move through different sections of the factory (areas with sports items, stuffed toys, candies, mechanical toys, bathtub toys, board games, etc.) to complete his mission and rescue Santa and his helpers. James Pond II happens to be quite the fun game. Despite the Christmas theme, it can be played anytime as the music in it, while festive, is not true Christmas music. The graphics are brightly coloured and the characters are all well defined and animated. You can play the game linearly or you can try to find some of the special passages that let you move ahead. There are various bonus items to be found and some even give you the ability to fly, which is helpful. In case you are wondering, yes there are bosses that you'll have to defeat as well. Don't assume that the big teddy bear is going to be friendly![/align:1pu9q8it]

Awesome review and the most I've heard on this title beyond it's name back in the day. Sounds interesting and I'm adding it to my list of games to check out. Thanks for this!

Absolutely!  Need to get another review up for this week!

One of my favourite platformers. The Amiga original had those eye bleeding copper effects, the SNES version never felt right, and the DS and PS1 reimagining added that terrible elf bomb mechanic.

MD version FTW! :)
