Let's switch gears this week and check out a title for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System

Review]
Super Metroid is the third installment in what has become an epic space saga involving Samus Aran's quest to quarantine the Metroids, a parasitic and highly dangerous alien species. The last living Metroid is stolen from a laboratory by space pirates who plan to harness the organism's incredible power for their own evil deeds. Samus answers the distress call, but the pirates escape with the specimen and speed off. When Samus trails them to the planet Zebes, she finds herself woefully unequipped to survive a head-on fight. Luckily, Zebes abounds in hi-tech upgrades, and each power-up improves Samus' firepower or maneuverability. She'll gain the ability to fire powerful missiles or to collapse into a ball and navigate the tight spaces she couldn't access before. As Samus obtains new abilities, different locations are opened up for exploration, so you're encouraged to inspect every inch of this beautifully detailed world. You'll take Samus into subterranean caves, ruins, and even an abandoned ghost ship, and the ambient soundtrack changes to reflect the mood every step of the way. The entire map is connected via a network of tunnels, so you're never interrupted by loading screens, and the enemies are just as colorful as the locations in which they reside. Ranging from the reptilian to the dragonish, the space pirates are a gruesome troupe, but none more so than Mother Brain, that contorted tower of tissue and flesh who leads the operation. She has herself garrisoned deep inside the belly of the planet and it'll likely take more than one sitting to reach her. Conveniently, Super Metroid features a save function, and you can record your journey at any of the save stations scattered through the map. This game ushered in a new standard for action-adventure games. You must experience it at least once.

Going to the final frontier, gaming...

Shadowrunner

Great review of a great game! I didn't have a SNES until a couple years ago so it's a fairly new experience for me. I like playing the Virtual Console version on the Wii U game pad :)

Greyfox

That was a fantastic review and bang on the button, this was one of the first games I actually stayed up all night to play, I remember starting it at about 8pm and at 8am I was still playing it to see what happened at the end. What a game one of the very few which incurred an all nighter :)
