I posted the map demo today at AtariAge that accurately replicates the original map for Zelda.  Here's the link:  http://atariage.com/forums/topic/226443-adventure-demo-7800basic/page-3

I won't be releasing the source for it to respect Ninendo's copyrights and I won't be making an actual game with Zelda graphics, its just a map demo of the Zelda world.  I thought I'd share here in case anyone is interested in taking a look.
