Sir Clive Sinclair and Retro Computers Ltd are pleased to announce the launch of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega.

The Sinclair Spectrum Vega is a new low cost games computer based on Sir Clive's hugely successful Spectrum products of the early 1980s.

The Sinclair Spectrum Vega takes advantage of major advances in technology to achieve big cost savings by replacing most of the electronics in the earlier computer products. Instead the Vega uses a low cost micro-controller and a clever piece of software that combine to enable the Vega to run all of the games, 14,000 or more of them, which were developed during the years when some 5 million of the original Sinclair Spectrum were being sold.

The Sinclair Spectrum Vega is being marketed by Retro Computers Ltd, a Luton-based start-up in which Sir Clive's company, Sinclair Research Ltd, is a shareholder. The development and marketing of the Sinclair Spectrum Vega is under licence from Sky In-Home Service Ltd, who inherited the intellectual property rights to the Spectrum computers from Amstrad.  Development of the product is complete, and a fully-functioning prototype is ready to go into production.

The Sinclair Spectrum Vega is as simple to use as any of the popular games consoles, but far less expensive. It plugs into a TV, so no computer monitor is necessary, and comes complete with around 1,000 games built-in. The Vega has sufficient memory to allow the user to download the many additional games we will be making available from time to time free of charge.

Did you mean to say it looks awful?

Either do the full keyboard, or do it in a C64 dtv style. Gamepads and Spectrums just isn't right, the games are meant to be played on keyboard or joystick.

Not for me, certainly at that price. Maybe at sub 20 quid I'd take a punt. Really I'd want the full keyboard though.

Yeah i agree, it needs a full keyboard otherwise countless games wont be playable (though I'm assuming it will have some sort of virtual keyboard, but even so that doesn't help with the track and field games!)
Would have been interested had it had the keyboard...

Hmm, I'm not sure about this one. It all just seems a little bit weird somehow, I can't put my finger on it.

Justifying it as low cost because of the value of having 1000 games on it is a bit lame. Maybe in 1983!
It is a nice little oddity though, I guess.

Having said that, if Sir Clive is involved that's pretty cool (well, relatively cool, lol)

but isn't the point been missed a little here?. It comes preloaded with a ton of games I suspect reversed engineered especially for this device?, I'll go with AmigaJay's comment on that I would say more than lightly it will include a virtual keyboard, but this may need to be addressed in the speed in which you can move across the keyboard, as lag with kill it dead in its tracks.

It is a novel idea and I suspect that this is an opportunity to fill the gap in plug and play joystick devices on the market today catered for those who once had a ZX Spectrum and want a quick fix of nostalgia from their childhood. But with been faced with Emulators on both Computers, Tablet and Phone devices, especially Tablet and Smart Phone isn't this the case anyways? with touchscreen navigation, only with this you use a directional joypad?

I think they are banking on newcomers of old and complete diehards and based on the cost this is probably the best engineering quote they've been giving to produce such a product. I know Elite were producing a Bluetooth device which is more or less the same thing with a keyboard, but look what happened with that? I am aware it's still coming but, this could beat them to it at retail if they are well on schedule to having it made.

only time will tell see how it fares out?. but only hearing about this says that they are not getting the awareness out there to get the backers involved.

I love it in terms of the development side of things and have Sir Clive Sinclair onboard just gives it something extra to me.. Having said that its still a bit rich for my blood at the moment..

They should allow me to contribute £50 now and this gives me £50 of the finished product when released.. Might be more interested personally then.. Sadly i can not justify the cost now.

I am gob smacked, this is backed 100% with 59 days left. Awesome achievement and let's honest. This is great for our niche hobby.
