I've been umming and aahing about starting a Mastertronic collection and the C64 seemed to be the way to go when I stumbled across a bit of blurb on the C128.  Does anyone have one of these?  Many games for it and do you think its owrth picking up?  They seem to go from £50-£300 depending on where you look so a bit risky.

I am in the market also, again I am like you so any advice is welcomed.

Was looking for games for this a couple of years ago, there isn't many games at all that take advantage of the extra memory, only a couple of handfuls at most that just add music, or speech, and certainly no exclusives games for it, for a collectable then yes, otherwise its a pointless model.

Isn't there a special version of Elite for it?

Had a quick look, was repackaged when the C128 came out, but all i can find is that it fixes some bugs from the C64 version.

Seems there was a hacked version called C128 Elite released back in 1998.  It changes a few things and adds an auto dock computer, think it uses the extra processor too.

Will it play all the old 64 games?

Yep, seems to be 100% compatible.

Great stuff, now to find one at a bargain price. :113:

The more I look at them (and I've been doing it alot for 2 days!) the less attractive they seem. Not much point as there's so few games worth getting and the C64 pretty much covers all basics.  Its not like the difference between say the Spectrum 48K and 128K.

I was more thinking that i am covering all bets by having this version, and i believe the C64 and this go for similar prices?

Yeah but you tend to find the C64 auctions have more stuff packed in from what I've seen. Loads of games, tape deck and joystick etc.

I love my C128. I agree that there are very few games. I only have a couple of C128 disks. Both could be considered edutainment or learning disks.

I have several models of the C64 but still prefer to game on the C128. The power supply seems to handle heat build-up better then the old Commodore 64 units.

It plays all my C64 games and looks very classy with a Fast Boot cartridge sticking out the back. :4:

Ok.

I have the box for the C128 and two different boxed mouse controllers. Plus bunches of loose floppy disks and instructions.
