I don't know if this is better suited for the Pi thread or here, but I'll ask anyway...

I have a Pi with a PiTFT touch screen addon. This:

As you can see, I have some games working on it. Others come up with the error messages:

"Error setting the requested video mode"
"Unable to start video emulation"

I'm guessing this is because it can't fit in the detected monitor resolution (320x240). Pacland is 320x224 so works fine.

Anyone know how to force games to scale to fit?

from memory, can you go into raspi config and reset the overscan settings there?

also check the .config files of the emulator, you may be able to modify them using nano.

If this sounds like the thing, pst back and I will get you some links.

Raspi config doesn't affect the PiTFT, unfortunately :(

I can't find anything in the emulator config files to choose screen mode. However, on games that do work I can change the settings within the emulator but only for that game. Which already works...

Carlos

maybe you can find an answer on the Adafruit forums, this looks like a common problem, loads of people will be trying to do what you have done.

Good work by the way.

I'm no hardware hacker as the soldering job in the bottom right will show :)

I have built a second one where the soldering is a lot better though. I don't think a feeble 15W soldering iron was really ideal. That's my excuse, anyway.

The rest was easy - prebuilt SD image with the PiTFT drivers, installed RetroPie over the top. Unfortunately anything which uses the hardware graphics acceleration (e.g. anything SDL based, like most of the supplied emulators!) won't output via the PiTFT, which is a shame. AdvanceMAME doesn't though, so it works well.

Aside from this issue, of course!

This looks f'ing savage!!!! Anything with a classic arcade game or games is always going to rock your boat, are you planning on housing this in a minture arcade cab style when its ready?

I think stuff like this goes unnoticed allot of the time and incredible when you see what people can make etc. I know I couldn't, so I have allot of respect for those that can produce quality stuff like this. :113:

Nah, I'm not going to house it. It's just a box for doing fun stuff on at the moment. It's nice just having a linux terminal on it too, actually.

AdvanceMAME doesn't actually run many games that well on it, actually. Even older stuff like Frogger struggles, even with frameskip.

The cost of a Pi and about £30 for the screen.

A case to suit is £13:

There's a capacitative version of the screen too if you prefer, but not from that link.
