The 4th generation is an utter bitch, could have easily gone for the PC Engine or Neo Geo

Interesting that every single person so far has picked 2600, Jaguar and Dreamcast

for me, if the current gen is not included I'd have to say my order would be something like

I'm a bit younger than perhaps some of you guys and I didn't really get into games in time to enjoy any of the original Atari machines, my first proper console was the Master System  around 92/93 followed closely by Mega Drive and the 2 handhelds, I got all 4 of those within a few years of each other but DC and Saturn rank highest as I just adored both of them, the SMS and MD moulded me into proper Sega fans at the time and I finally had my own money when I got Saturn and DC and so I was finally able to really go to town on my collections and get as deeply into them as I could, where as the others I just got what I could for bdays and xmas lol

my top 3 is REALLY hard because I found myself trying to work out what criteria I wanted to go by. If I went purely by influence on me as a gamer I'd probably say MD/SMS joint top, Saturn, DC, Jag etc but if we're going by my overall feeling for all consoles I'd say I'm happy with what I put

I remember getting Sonic and Knuckles xmas 95 and thinking it was the GREATEST thing I'd EVER SEEN lol, great days

So hard to choose as is more than one console in each generation that I loved to play i guess i'd better take the plunge and make a decision.

I think if I must choose it will be as follows:

1st Mattel Intellivision (with Atari2600 coming very close)
2nd CBS Coleco Vision due to their great arcade conversions
3rd Sega Master System
4th Sega Mega Drive (my first real console obsession)
5th Sega 32X (would have put Mega CD but it wasn't in the list and not sure if it would count as 4th or 5th gen)
6th Sony Playstation
7th Microsoft Xbox

Although I have a large collection of consoles and computers there are so many out there that I still haven't played on yet. You never know, if I do ever get to play them all my list may well change.

Nice list,

 I would say that I would Put the Mega drive at the top of my list, just because that was the one I always wanted, I actually got my firts one when the games were being discontinued, but I would have missed Brian Laras Cricket and ISS deluxe, wich was an absolute revelation.

1st Atari 2600 - before I got into games but I since own one and have yet to collect a collection for it.
2nd MB Vectrex - same as above
3rd Nintendo NES - the generation I got into Video Games.  Owned a MS system before my NES, came very close to the MS.
4th Sega Mega Drive - Probably the first console that blew me away.  So many top titles and found memories.
5th Atari Jaguar - One of the few I'm collecting the complete library for and then some.
6th Sony Playstation - Had the best marketing and game library.
7th Microsoft Xbox - Probably the first console that got me playing with friends.

8th Microsoft Xbox 360 - Had to add this generation as this is the most I've ever played on any one console.

It's probably about the eighth Xbox 360 dubchaser's owned too after the first seven all died of the various RRoD, Error E47, meltdown et al issues!
