Hi All,

Not sure if anyone has had this issue on the forum, but I'm trying to play the X-Files for PS1 on an HDTV, but the icon graphics are all glitchy!
For example the pointers are just a bunch of colours in a square as opposed to being a hand graphic.

I've tried "Game Mode" on my TV and texture smoothing on the PS2 settings but can't get this to stop...any ideas?

The PS2 is connected via RCA Composite (red, white, yellow cables)...would an original PS1 connected via antenna be best for this instead?

Unfortunately, this is just a limitation of modern HDTVs, it's not going to matter if you use the PS1 or not.  Your options are basically to play on a CRT, or buy a scaler like an XRGB-3 (which I use, and highly recommend).  Game Sack have a great video explaining this: Game Sack - Retro Gaming on HDTVs and Video Connections

Yep, I stopped using my LCD TV to play games for the very reason.  I use a 19" CRT and everything looks great.  I don't have my consoles modded so I use an RF signal booster, which makes everything looks really good on the CRT screen.  I do use the LCD for the Jaguar games, though, using SVideo.

Going to the final frontier, gaming...

Thanks guys,

I also found another post about the same game just by googling and the suggestion was to use an emulator on a PC as well...may give that a go first and see how I get on...I'll post the results within a week  :25:

I have to say, I prefer to play PSX games via emulator myself.  The two main ones are ePSXe and PCSX-R.  ePSXe was ahead for a long time, but these days PCSX-R has surpassed it in my opinion.  The key is to make sure you use the PEOPS video plugin (assuming you have a decent video card).  It requires some tweaking for each game, but can make most 3D PSX games look like PS2 games.  The way I recommend using it is via your TV's VGA input, if it has one, and if you have a video card that still supports native VGA out.  HDMI isn't bad either, but text and still images, as well as pre-rendered backgrounds, can become somewhat blurry.  You can always just try both and see which you prefer.

EDIT:  Also, keep in mind most really new HDTVs have horrible VGA quality, some only offering 640x480.  This is why the Dreamcast's VGA output will look so bad on certain HDTVs, but fantastic on others.  If you have a newer one that has bad (or even totally dropped) VGA support, HDMI is still your best bet.
