Pac Land (Robin Swan) Graphics 83%, sound 77%, Playability 84%, Lastability 80% and Overall 80%.

Overall would this not be 81%?

Still to low for my tastes. Are any of the magazines still in print? Robbie Swan, I feel your goose is already cooked :33:

Seen magazines before say the Overall score is'nt an average of the scores given to specific areas, but an 'Overall' rating of what game is like, if that makes sense?.

C+VG website still active (and Troll central), magazine folded years back i seem to recal.Last issue i saw had it reviewing PS2/Xbox games and it was an utter rag.

Rogue Trooper

Paul glancey review of Zalor Mercenary in C+VG:

Overall 74%. decent looking, but quite difficult and not overly exciting to play.

onthinice

Thanks and Overall score does make sense.

I bought Pac-Land new for the Turbo-16 back in the early 1990's. Then I did not know as much about the Lynx but knew that NEC had the Turbo Express but outside of that, you were limited to what systems even had Pac-Land. Talking before the Namco releases on Playstation.

My thought is to be able to have a portable version of Pac-Land, before mobile devices and emulation, should have easily jumped the score.

Quote from: "Rogue Trooper"C+VG Mini-reviews:

Shanghai Overall 84%

Rampage Overall 60%

Robosquash Overall 70%

Rygar Overall 46%

WTF? Rygar only 46%? are they mad?.Apparenttly the reviewer feels gameplay is dull, run-of-the mill and graphics are 'Not that good' ohh and rampage they say has 'Not much gameplay, soon gets tedious' hence 60%.

By comparison, RAZE scores for a few Lynx games:

Rygar: Overall 81% (Graphics recived 81% as well).

Rampage:Overall 81%

Zalor Merc.:Overall 74%

*Found another C+VG score:

Awesome Golf (Frank O'Connor+Tim Boone) Overal 87%

***And: ohhh boy, you just wait till i post next lot of mag scores on Lynx games!****

TL

I have all the scans of Raze, I think I posted the Lynx ones in the actual Lynx thread.

I always liked their reviews, although I think the Zarlor one is too low. I was gutted when that mag folded as they covered 7800 too.

Rogue Trooper

Here we go then, from:(C+VG's) Guide to Consoles book (all scores Overall rating):

Gates Of Zendocon 84%

Chips Challenge 75%

Electrocop 90%

Gauntlet III 90%

Klax 93%

Ms Pacman 79%

Roadblasters 76%

Slimeworld 90%

So far, so good......

But.....

wait for it Laird.....

Blue Lightning......

66%-A good showcase for the hardware, but NOT a good game!

Objection!!!!!!!!!!! From R.T alone, that's cobblers!

TL

Not far off what I gave it actually, I reviewed it here at 7/10.

Blue Lightning is a great graphics showcase but its far too short and is not that an amazing game IMO.

Until Afterburner:Black falcon on PSP, i've yet to play a handheld game of this type that delivered what Blue Lightning did.I've no qwibbles with a short game, espically on a handheld.I'd give it 8/10 myself, easily.Few other scores for it:

IGN 9/10
ST Action 87/100
Powerplay 75%
Atari Times 90%.

C+VG guides lowest i've seen for it.

When they give Afterburner on Speccy 90% and say it reads like a great game+showcase for the hardware.........

They were'nt overly keen on the (great) C64 version either (and reviews at this point had NO Overall score, just ind.ratings).

C64 Pacland:

Graphics, Sound, Playability and Value, all chalked up a 6/10 each.

Rogue Trooper

And....

As far as ripping into Lynx Rampage, C+VG awarded Speccy Rampage a C+VG Hit! and gave the MS version 81% so..if gameplay was that poor? why only the Lynx version marked down i wonder?.

Especially the Lynx version is enhanced over those versions and indeed the arcade game too.

They described the arcade game as:good clean, cartoon fun, so as far as i can see, the only format they had issues with the gameplay on was the Lynx? I would say madness, but i'm about to post on how C64 Paperboy fared at review...lol, so there's no logic to their reviews over the years.

onthinice

Reviews for Pac-Land and Ninja Gaiden. One thing I liked at the time was the size of the cart and the projected price. Sorry in dollars only ;)

TL

I love that!

Great review Ice, thanks for posting it!
